To build a club you need grass roots. Not buying guys from here and there. You want them to come in via your system and feel part of the club.
Is this BA fault? Yes and no. It isn't his problem we do not have as many juniors. But his fault with somemof the kids we've let go.
Alioi,Stephano,Twal,Remis Smith,Tuikamacha, Doorey Matterson first time around come to mind....
7 juniors who we missed who have turned into good established NRL players. They where here and part of our system. This is how you build a team. Instead we have

D.Brown,Kafusi,Jnr and even though we developed Matterson we still let him go and only bought him back due to big bucks.
I will also add Mahoney.

So in 8yrs we've since BA come added D.Brown,Kafusi and Mahoney from our junior system. Jnr was already in first grade. Matterson wasn't even making our NSW cup side as we didn't rate him.

Yet 6 guys are playing elsewhere. There is I am sure more like BBO. A list would be nice for people more in the know of who was part of our jnr set up during BAs days.

Yes I know we may not of signed Papali'i or Cartwright but I have banged on about this for years. Want to build a club you need close to 50% of your side being juniors.

@TheRam Please let me know thoughts on this.

Add following

Keppie, Schuster, Ola’kamatu, Curran, Saab, Biondi Odo
Unless it’s his son or they come from the Rouse Hill Rhinos

Sydney Morning Herald reporter] Michael Chammas rang me and that was the first I'd heard of it," he told 2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio.

"It's a wonderful club, they have a wonderful ground, wonderful support base, they're in a really strong position despite getting hammered in the media … although they've done a good enough job to be where they are at the moment.

"I wish them all the best for the rest of the year. It's where I started my career as a kid.

"At the moment, the Roosters aren't losing their coach, Penrith isn't losing theirs … so I've got to say, if I was going to go back to NRL coaching, Parramatta would be a great club."

So Fittler, Green and Flanagan all positioning themselves for the eels job….

Kenty made an interesting point about the eels, there is 2 stories:

- the eels and whether they will make the decision to move BA on
- and stories being put to the media from candidates who want the job (or considered for it). Fittler put forward by Hooper / Green by Buzz recently. These stories happening for reason.

Anyhow the eels job is a pretty attractive option for a coach right now. Decent squad but also options to make changes within a year with some stars off contract.

And most importantly a few juniors who may will be ready for 2022 but definitely for 2023 making it easy not to resigning some of off contract players…

the future looks ok…..

For one reason or another we’ve failed to produce or identify juniors. Some of those names 111 mentions aren’t genuine ‘juniors’. Mahoney is a QLD’er for ffs. Some of those players were signed in there late teens, but claiming a player like matterson a junior is debatable. Especially when he considers himself a dogs/bulls junior. About 6/7 years ago, Phil Gould poached our head of juniors to Penrith. Look at their results the past few seasons. They’re in good stead for seasons ahead. While the second biggest nursery in NSW RL has failed in identifying talent. Is it the fault of BA? No it isn’t, but the system isn’t as good as people think.

I'd say they know premierships can't be reliably bought by a club on our budget.

I think it was discussed ad nauseum at the time, but my recollection is that from when Hagan was here until after Stuart left, there was very little attention paid to our juniors from the NRL level down. This meant we saw a lot of juniors easily get sucked up by other teams programs. If you consider that most junior talent is identified around 13-14 years of age and nurtured from that point on, it is not surprising that we saw very few local juniors debut between 2012 (13 y.o in 2007 = 18 y.o in 2012) and 2017/18 (13 y.o in 2012 = 18 y.o in 2017).

Since 2018 we have seen 8 local debutants which is not ideal but it is showing signs of improving.

improving yes I agree. But the question needs to be asked, where are the quality kids??? We’ve got the second biggest nursery behind panther (not by much). But where are our origin juniors that came thru our entire system. Not players that we bought at 18 or 19. Are we failing to identify them in their early teens? I know we have a batch starting to show up in grade, but are there any stars amongst them or
Just players that may play a bit of grade.

Kids are everywhere. Just need the right systems, support and coaches.

And that is what we didn't have from 2007 until at least 2014. And because they can't play NRL when they are 13 or 14, it takes 5 or 6 years before you see them debut.

Most of the ones who were identified as 14 year olds back in 2013 are now 20 or 21 and debuting for other clubs whose "systems" they have been since early teens. The ones we identified since then are now starting to come through. Russell, Dunster, Penisini, and Arthur have already debuted in the last 12 months because we kept them in our system.

Have you heard the news that's goin' 'round here?
The man in charge has got to go
'Cause he dances 'round the problem, boy
And the problem is the man in charge you know
Now, the young knows what I'm talking 'bout
It's a con in the old man's game
The man in charge, he don't know what he's doing
He don't know the world has changed
Power seems to be so far up
The man on the street ain't got a clue
The high top cat's running your life
Thinks the problem is me and you
Born in a time that has gone by
The old tell the young what to do
Have you heard the news that's goin' 'round here?
The problem is the man in charge of you
The problem is the man in charge of you

But do we have the coaching to develop these players and others coming through? Im not convinced. I recall BA stating a number of years ago that he wants the entire club playing "Parramatta Football" or words to that effect. Is this why so many have left and given the opportunity to display their skills elsewhere. These kids that have left are not overnight successes. Is it that a better system has developed natural skills? Just an outside observation.
