Obviously not everyone wearing a particular jersey number is necessarily playing the same role as any other merkin wearing the same number at a different club or in a different year.
If you break it down even just by percentage of their team's touches you see some interesting differences. Looking at last round (chosen because the round is complete), and just for shiggles I've also added columns showing the percentage of that player's touches that were kicks and runs:
Player wearing 7 last week | Number of touches | Percentage of team's touches | Percentage of his touches that were kicks | Percentage of his touches that were runs |
Clune | 89 | 19.1 | 10.1 | 6.7 |
Trindall | 66 | 16.3 | 16.7 | 12.1 |
O'Sullivan | 64 | 14.7 | 7.8 | 12.5 |
Pearce | 69 | 14.6 | 14.5 | 15.9 |
Luai | 55 | 13.8 | 10.9 | 20.0 |
Dearden | 56 | 13.1 | 17.9 | 14.3 |
Brooks | 57 | 13.0 | 15.8 | 10.5 |
Cherry-Evans | 55 | 12.9 | 20.0 | 10.9 |
Moses | 43 | 12.9 | 23.2 | 9.3 |
Williams | 41 | 12.0 | 31.7 | 12.2 |
Averillo | 49 | 11.8 | 20.4 | 12.2 |
Hughes | 48 | 11.8 | 22.9 | 14.6 |
Sexton | 42 | 11.7 | 21.4 | 14.3 |
Reynolds | 44 | 10.2 | 20.5 | 11.4 |
Kelly | 37 | 9.9 | 21.6 | 32.4 |
Walker | 44 | 9.9 | 13.6 | 25.0 |
It's also obvious that this is a snapshot of a single round, and a player's involvement and run/kick rate depends on a number of external factors, including who else is in his team that week (especially his halves partner) and the opposition.
