I doubt we'll be paying Hodgson more than what we were willing to pay Mahoney before the greedy merkin took Gus' extra grub money.

Hodgson would be happy to have a home at a decent club given his age and injuries.
He's apparently on $700k now.

He reportedly knocked back a longer deal with the Tigers to take a one year deal with a club option, 16 months before the start of the season the contract will be for, in very quick time.

Why would he sign a one year deal so quickly, 16 months before the season he has signed the deal for starts, if it wasn't in the vicinity of what he was already earning?

Let's be honest, the club panicked and impulse bought when Mahoney decided he was leaving.

I already answered that question.

He would be on considerably more than Mahoney now. Why would we he have signed so quickly if we was offered consislderably less?
I don't think Hodgson would have been offered less than what Mahoney is currently on with us at all - but I'm not convinced he should have been offered any/much more.

* Same as it did when Kane Evans signed with the Warriors and Eels replaced him with Papaliti....

A player who was barely in our Top 17, Kane Evans, was informed he was no longer required from the end of the season and signed in May for the following season. Papali'i then signed in September. Not sure I'd classify that as the same thing, and certainly not an impulse buy after someone we wanted to keep left.

He would be costing 300-400k Thats pretty common knowledge. If he stays fit he is worth it. Question is can he stay fit. We didn't pay 700k. No fool would.

And a guy his age has not interest in playing at a rebuild club. A big incentive would be a title push
He would have to be getting at least 500k (I suspect more) for him to sign so quickly. My understanding is that he won't be moving to Sydney.

He won't be moving to Sydney? How will he train?

If he looked around for 6 weeks and had no interest Parra may of told him our offer stands for 2 weeks only or we look elsewhere. Who else was interested?

Anyone know how Hodgson is recovering?

Will he be good to go for pre season?

You'd imagine so. Isn't a recover around 9mths before play? So you'd think after 6mths light training would resume and after 7-8 mths normal training.
September would be 6mths while November makes it 8mths

I'm sure he will stay in Sydney, but I read something locally here that the family will remain in Canberra.

I believe Matt Parish, Dean Pay, Mick Ennis, Brett Kimmorley have all coached at the Raiders whilst continuing to live in Sydney, I'm sure Hodgson can do it the other way. It's not as if they train 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

He was going to the Tigers, but they couldn't get a deal done for this season so both parties let it go. The Tigers ended up signing Korisau instead. Within a week of the Tigers deal not happening, it is announced he signed with us. I suspect it was already being arranged in the background.
