What returns? Unsure what you mean? In AMERICAN sports and EPL etc players always are made public.
We as fans should be able to see what the wages are. We are the ones ultimately paying them. Our support. We are their employees. Without us they don't exist.

So as far as exceptions go, @Gazzamatta, the Griffin example would only apply at Parra if we had a player we desperately wanted to re-sign and he was willing to take significantly less if we signed his dad. Then we would need to sack the current coach despite his great record over the past three years.
