If Smith wasn’t there for the Storm in 2020 I reckon Penrith would have done a 4p.
Nah i reckon that loss has made them stronger and burned them to not experience it ever again.

Unlike our last 3 GF sides who have failed miserably the years afterwards.

I said a long way out in 2020 if Penrith got to the GF that year only losing 1 game they would lose the GF and it happened. Teams don't win premierships these days unless you lose 3 games at a minimum i reckon.

Plus they got dead lucky in 2021 like seriously the more i look back on that semi final loss i am more pissed off about that game then the GF last year.

We got deadset stitched up by Klein and refs that night Penrith should have been staring down the barrel of 2 dominant seasons where they rarely lost a game with no premiership.

Penrith are amazing. But two of their grand final wins where very tight. 2022 was the year they where way above anyone.
Unsure if they can do it again in 2024. They've had there best 17 in the last two grand finals. Whats the chances of thst happening again in 24. Actusly they had May out but Turuva was just as good.

The thing that’s started to piss me off about the 2001 is that we were built to play a particularly style, we dominated 2001 because of it and to combat that single year of dominance of exciting attack, the NRL allowed the Rorters 3 years of dominance by encouraging gang tackling that drove the game into boredom. That filtered into wrestling which allowed Scums (along with cheating) to dominate for years. Now we’ve got the gang tackling (admittedly less cynical than the old Rorters style) of Smugs.
Gee it would’ve been nice if we got more than a single season of our style being allowed to dominate

I think officiating is more influential on results in the rugby codes than any other sport. The ruck is such a grey area that the way it’s policed can tip the balance a long way in either team’s favour. When it’s consistent we just recognise that some teams are better than others, but when it’s not officiated consistently we get upsets. I think officiating is more often the cause than one team just not turning up.

I don't really remember the game much. I had 6 nervous pous.

Maybe if I watched it again I might have a different view, but my memory is that we appeared to pou pou ourselves.

It wouldn't have matter how that game was reffed. We were on a hiding.

Honestly I think we where just nervous. It was similar in the Brisbane semi final the week before. That was a tight game.
Had A.Ryan scored rather then drop ball and it's 14-6 we win. That was a huge blown try. 9/10 he scores there.
Once we settled and got into our rhythm we where running all over them. Unfortunately it wasn't untill the 60th minute.

Same as last year we were nervous. They didn't organise a bus so the players had to drive down to the game.

Sivo dropped the ball over the line early in the 2nd half.

Once we settled into the game in the 75th min we were all over Penrith another 10 mins we would have stormed home.

Penrith shut off. If they hadn't we don't score and they put on 2 or 3 more and it's 40 nil.
That score reflects the game better then 28-12
It was a hiding. We couldn't make more then 30mtrs per set.

Come on don't ruin it for me.

I sat through 80 mins of that torture at the ground.

Helps me sleep at night thinking we were only 10 mins away from having the greatest comeback of all-time in a GF.

Instead of the humiliation that happened.

But they did shut off. It’s an 80 minute game. A team not putting in the last 5 minutes is often more influential than a team not putting in the first 5. If we got a couple of freak tries to bring it to even just within one score then do you still say well Smugs dominated that game?
f**k we demolished Dolphins this year and shut up shop at halftime. Most of the comments post game were about how the good teams would’ve been more “ruthless”.

The only more influential officiating are judging sports (gymnastics, etc).
Rugby union offsets it with unlimited tackles with defensive line set at ruck. We all love to abuse NRL refs but they’ve never really been helped out by the rules.

They f**ked up the 2 ref system probably so badly they’ll never bring it back. The head ref should be in charge of setting 10m and general play and the 2nd ref just officiates the ruck. And for the love of god! don’t switch over mid game because why would you willingly expose yourself to displaying how different “interpretations” of the rules can be.

They just won the gran final. At the time they shut off it was impossible to comeback.
We scored in the 77th and 78th minutes.
They had 64% territory to 36%
8 line breaks vs 2. Ours coming at end of game. It was a smashing of all sorts.
28-12 doesn't reflect how badly we where dominated. 28-0 yeah fair enough. Was more a 40-0 feel
