One big problem for NRL coaches that are struggling is that they struggle with media duties, so they find it hard or impossible to articulate to the fan the way they plan to change things for the future.

I've literally never heard an NRL coach say anything remotely interesting about the game and I've never learned anything about the game from an NRL coach. Until they retire and become commentators.

For example fans had to find out about wrestling (the most important aspect of 2018 RL) for themselves. I actually think fans of the game should pat themselves on the back for working this stuff out because we have had zero assistance from the coaching fraternity.

In my opinion coaches bring terrible salesmanship to the game so they better bring results or they are cut.

I mostly agree, the only coach i can think of who was a genuine salesman was Ricky Stuart with NSW. For me, we was what kicked Origin up a notch in 2011ish...

I would also say that the only coach who takes fans along instead of hoping to just impress them at the end is Browny with Newcastle. I hope his media relationship is the new standard, it has been wonderful to know the clubs intended direct instead of just listening to media people guessing.

On the note of promotion, I still think it is weird that the post-GF speeches are done by the captains and not the coaches. Players get where they do because they are good at running into things (no speaking ability is required). It seems logical that the coach, the person hired entirely based on their ability to communicate, should be the one making the speech.

I know they are mostly pretty dull at pressers, but remember that they are bouncing the conversation off dull journos. I think it would be entirely different if the coach was speaking directly to 80k fans at such an emotional moment.

Even though I don’t really rate Ben Ikin he did for once in his life make a good comment on NRL360.

Crawley was going all Balkan on BA until Ikin said that before you decide what to do with your coach you must as a board ask yourself if the coach in front of you can win you a premiership?

So I ask my fellow Eels supporters. Do you see Arthur bringing us a title after 30 odd years? Initially I must admit I thought he would but his window was in 2016 and last year. Now all I can see is a concrete wall.
