In one stint at a club? 3 years to win the premiership.

He got sacked / or left from his previous appointments

And he done well at the warriors too. Ba is only going backwards. Last year we made the finals and this year we miss out.

We’re actually the first team to celebrate mad Monday.

How long did Cleary take?

He coach at the Warriors 6 years. They played finals 4 times. His first year they had the 4th best points differential but lost 4 points otherwise they are 5/6yrs in the top 8. I'll also add the year that went pear shaped they lost a squad member Sunny Fai who drowned. That was always going to mess the squad up.
I'm unsure why you cock on about how long it took him. Him taking the Tigers to 9th in his 2nd season was impressive considering the clubs state. His first stint at Penrith was not great but the side was a mess. He still won at 50% which is only 3% less then Baldy.

yeah fully agree.
shane perry won a gf as halfback but had a squad and a half around him..
Shane Perry had 16 origin or international players beside him.

He was the only player from that broncos 2006 side that never played rep football.

Yet we're supposedly under the cap.

Penrith poached Cleary as well.

It wasn't like the warriors sacked him.

You could argue it's taken 12 years for the warriors to look a decent side since his departure.

They have had more coaches then BA has had haircuts in the past dozen years.

This is what we did after 2005 and it led to the pre-2019 disaster years.
We were pretty damn competitive in 2006,2007 and 2009. Those sides were good enough to win premierships. That 2007 side in particular was very underrated. Peak Hayne, Inu,Tahu,Mateo, Hindmarsh, Cayless, Moimoi and Tim Smith had finally rediscovered his mojo. Too bad Melbourne were cheating the cap that season.

Well the cock up against the Cowboys was the final straw after a string of prelim and GF losses earlier under Smith where we should have made at least 2 more GFs under him.

If we had won in 2005 which we should have Smith probably gets another 3/4 years and does a 15 year stint.
Brian Smith got screwed over by Brett Seymour deciding to put Hindmarsh out for the season and Moimoi getting unfairly suspended.

Given the majority if not all of the Eels board are business people rather than footy people, I don't think results are the be all and end all for them to base decisions off. They will look at the over 35K members and say we are successful. I would say only a significant drop in members, crowd numbers and sponsors and therefore income would agitate them to move on from the coach. But that takes a few years of losing seasons
So unfortunately I can't see anything changing anytime soon

Some good insight there

Like the coach and the rest of the staff and players, our performance reflects on eveyone, including the board imo. Its all well and good to say they are managing the club well finaicially but at the end of the day we are a footy club with fans that want to see sucess and like anyone else at the club they should fall on thier sword as much as anyone else if we are not sucessfull.

We need a culture of accountability that includes Financial KPI’s as well as performance KPIs Twiz. As you say, that goes for the board too.
hitting financial KPIs, without the performance to match, can lead to what we see now, which is the first sign of the rot setting in… complacency.

Apathy from the fanbase is starting to kick in, I noticed it at the Gabba last week. It can’t be a good sign for any organisation the pricks are so lucky we are as loyal as we are. But maybe that loyalty is the problem?? Enough fans buy memberships, go to go games and buy merchandise that the results don’t really matter.

I’d say those sides were still benefiting from the Brian Smith development era. By 2010 those benefits were mostly gone. There would’ve been nobody left on unders and a few back ended contracts filling up the cap.

The 2009 side only won 12 games during the regular season (one more than we did this year) and had a points differential close to zero. Not the sign of a strong team.

Yep. Memberships and crowd numbers dropping will make the bean counters take notice more than just shitty results on the field (unfortunately)

A Manly Eels Grand final in 2007 would have been amazing..

Over what period should a board's success be measured though? At the top their decisions could take years to translate to on field performance.
