Biggest loss was 30-6 vs Parra in Rd whatever.

Ftr that 40-20 loss was the harshest 20 point loss this year

every team relies on a couple of players.

Stuart-Daley
walters brothers, meninga, mullins, nagas, furner, croker, osbourne, lazarus, clyde, nadruku, belcher, wiki off the top of my head

Langer-Walters
renouf, hancock, carne, gillmeister, webcke, tallis, lockyer, civoniceva, carroll, lazarus, gee, matterson, johns

Cliff Lyons-Menzies

hill, toovey, mark carroll, menzies, kosef, hopoate, gillespie, matthew ridge, hasler

the list goes on.

And the thing is, I reckon every single one of you who claim we are a 2 man band, would kill to have either one of those players in your team.

the above teams were move than a 2 man team. they were a 17 man team which is why they were so good. in 15 years the cowboys will never be looked back on in fear. people still look at the canberra, broncos and manly sides of the late 80s (for canberra) and the 90s in absolute awe. cowboys will be forgotten

Thought it might be a different game. I think 40 points was the most NZ conceded all year maybe that's what I based it on. Regardless, they've never given up in matches like the Cowboys have.

Spot on Tonearm.

The Cowboys pack:

Matthew Scott, Aaron Payne, Carl Webb, Sam Faust, Matthew Bartlett, Mark Henry

One of the least experienced of all time.

They'd do well to start Cashmere IMO.

maybe in 10 years time they would of developed into fantastic players, who knows? but cowboys of 2007 will be known for thurston and bowen. even the joey johns newcastle boys weren't quite a one man team.

and each of those teams wouldn't need thurston or bowen, they already had players like that.

Yeah but we're in the heavily enforced salary cap era now. How kind is history really going to look on any premiers from this point onwards? The Roosters of 2002-2004 would sit in the Manly of 95-97 category and if Melbourne can jag the comp this year then you could put them there but that's about it for this decade. The reality is that the great era dominating sides are going to be a thing of the past.

I am still worried about the Cowboys. I think they can win the comp.

People have been writing them off all season, but they have won something like 6 in a row. They have momentum, and are on the right side of the draw.

I think the Storm will win the comp, but the Cowboys would probably be my second pick...

The Cowboys are easily the worst 3rd place side i can remember since i started following league. They have copped some hammerings this season from ordinary teams aswell. In saying that though because of the salary cap and the closeness of the comp i guess it doesnt matter how bad you are getting into 3rd place. Theyre just as good a chance as the warriors of winning.

The Manly of the mid 1990's hardly relied on Cliffy Lyons and Steve Menzies. Much like the Storm of the last two seasons, they were the polar opposite of the Cowboys. A superb team unit.

The two man team comment is a myth. It's just been perpetrated because they are going THAT good. Everybody is forgetting the performances of our next best players like Carl Webb, who has been going well, and Ashley Graham. Not forgetting of course the tireless one-two punch combination of Payne and Faiumu who have been tremendously consistent and a big part of our wins. Thurston and Bowen can do nothing if the team isn't going forward and our pack has been sneaking under the radar. They are mostly no-names but they have rolled us to six wins straight, two of which were against the so-called best pack in the comp the Bulldogs.

League's Biggest Myth. Almost as bad as the 'Parramatta is the deadliest backline in the comp' crap.

Wow...the Cowboys bashers are out in force today...yes they may be reliant on Thurston and Bowen but they are still a good consistent side.

wow imagine if they could play and were not pretenders
they may be soooo far ahead of the comp they might start a new comp on their own

they finished 3rd its not their fault the other teams couldnt beat them
and make them finish lower

and as for the negative for and against I dont read too much into it

Hows their for and against in the finals ??

or over the last six weeks for that matter

I don't think that the Cowboys are pretenders. Any team which has Aaron Payne, Thurston and Bowen in the side are capable of beating any team in the comp on their day. Such is the greatness of rugby league, nothing is a foregone conclusion. All a team has to do is play near perfect footy for a large portion of any game, not necessarily the whole game, to come away with a win. The Cowboys are no different.

I think the cowboys can win this weekend, they won't win the premiership though. I also think people are over rating the warriors because they want to see them do well but geez they looked pedestrian last week.
