Does Brad Arthur deserve the hype?

Peats and Mau are not playing in our team currently, it's something called an injury and they both have been for the most part of our performances. Hopoate had a few years off so if you looked at him last year you'd say that he would need some time to work back into first grade. Not many were expecting miraculous things from him this year neveralone to play origin. Gower falls under my category of playing above his potential and mate, ask any Broncos fan about Norman in 2013 or beforehand and they would tell you they weren't exactly sad to see the back of their affectionately named "Boreman". I don't think you understand my point at all.

"This squad is considerably better off that is was last year." - Did you even read my post, this is exactly what I was getting at?

I don't know why you are telling me how much more players have been playing this year either.

If you looked at our this team this year on paper and they played the same as 2013 we would be wooden spoon contenders 2014, not potentially finishing on 30 pts
. IE. Thank you Brad Arthur for getting this team playing the way they should have. Just because someone wasn't playing for us doesn't mean that if you saw them on our team list in 2013 they'd be any better.

If hayne was out injured like last season we would be close to getting the spoon again this season.

Hayne has made BA look better than he might actually be.

Just like Cameron Smith makes Craig Bellamy look better.
Or Darren Lockyer made Bennett look better?
Or Peter Sterling made Jack Gibson look better?

Good point.

Maybe they all are really shit coaches who are made to look better by star players.

Ivan Cleary must be the best coach going around atm.

He probably is.
He does manage to get plenty out of his average 'stars'.
That's not to say he doesn't have some excellent talent on his hands. Moylan has been a revelation (and would be quite cheap on his current contract) and James Segeyaro has proven to be a quality buy for them. Idris has always had plenty of potential and Josh Mansour could have played Origin this year. Soward also has one of the best kicking games in the League.

The best thing for them is that Idris is probably their highest paid player, and he wouldn't be anywhere near what most other club's highest paid players are on. But when contracts start to come to their end you can expect Moylan, Segeyaro and Mansour (I think he just re-signed actually) to get quite the upgrade.

BA has done well this year imo, a few mistakes but who doesnt make them.
He had our attack on fire early on, injuries really made the year hard.
BA has done well and learn quick, big pass mark.

I like brad Arthur, but honestly, the last two weeks, we just haven't been up for it.

Surely it's his job to get them up for the game?

Why hasn't he been able to get that second half performance against Manly out of this side more often.

Young coach, lot of young players, hopefully they all learn a lot and we make the finals next year.

In a salary capped league, it's bullshit we haven't made the finals since 2009.

Either they don't have plays or the halves are too incompetent to execute them

They're grown men. More than that, they're professional athletes. If they're not self motivated they have no business playing in the NRL. Forget everything you ever heard or saw about coaches getting players to slap each other in the face. Will to win doesn't work that way.

It's not the coach's job to motivate the players.

You can't work offloads into a gameplan.
They are a variable - you never know when the chance to do one will come.

Hey pou, any chance of some stats on how a team has gone after winning the spoon?

Only kidding

But I reckon this will show Arthur has done a fair effort with the side this year
