don't think the Dragons will be as poor as most people are predicting.

It was summed up well elsewhere by Rex Terp, but apart from a few minutes in the trials, no-one knows how Drinkwater is going. Except the coach. How is his attitude, how is he training, fitness, etc etc. Yes Fien's best days are undoubtedly behind him but more must go into the decision

I would have to agree with this. Apart from a few throw away comments by Price and the 2 trials (which really only gave him limited opportunity), nobody really knows how he is gelling with the team and how he is training etc. I would love to give the guy a go as well as he is pretty much our future, but at this stage, I think it is going to be a better idea to ease him into the position if possible.

The other thing I am conscious of is the number of new players joining the team and the number of youngsters Price has been trialling. Teams don't often gel in attack quickly and with so many key positions (not to mention other positions across the field) being reshuffled or newly filled, we have to expect some teething issues and allow some time to work out the best team to field and for the combos to gel.

There were a few areas for improvement in the Charity Shield, but I did think there were some positives to come out of it. Ball control is something that needs work, but in the second 1/2 you could see some of the combos working and some confidence building. I do have to agree though that I don't think Fein is the player we need in the 1/2s. Also, Price played it like a trial (as he should have) and moved players around and regularly cycled through the team. It would be difficult to get any sort of consistency on the field with so many players coming and going from the game.

I'm optimistic about this season. I think we may struggle to find consistency early on while the team learns to work with each other, but I think as the season progresses and they find their feet, I think we may be a very competitive team.

When has a current player not backed the coach??? Typically not a good move so I personally pay no attention to Ben creagh and the like voicing their support for Price.

As for the team gelling in attack, we waited the entire 2012 season for it to improve and in reality it didn't. You can't reference the last couple of games against a Warriors team that had given up and the wooden spoon Eels. The attack in the charity shield was awful and disjointed. I hope I'm wrong and they have a good season but we have no game breakers and our spine looks to be one of a jelly fish

I think he's saying our 1-6-7-9 move about gracefully and have a lethal sting. Nice to see a positive post.

I would not be throwing Drinkwater in against the Storm. If we cop a belting it could greatly affect his confidence.
In the 1970s I think it was we threw a kid front rower in against Souths. John O'neill Sattler etc. he got destroyed and hardy played again. Maybe his name was Kevin Gibson ?? Whilst the game is played differently now I still think DW should be eased into 1st grade.

Dragons simply dont have quality game breakers or the depth to worry the top teams sure they will have their moments mainly at home but really they r in a rebuilding stage. Having lost to many hardened quality first graders over the past 3 years at best they will struggle to win half their games. Just my opinion hope im wrong

A young raw half is what we need ,not an old hack.Drinkwater doesn't need to do too much as Soward will be the chief playmaker.
Why wouldn't a young player want to come up against the best in the business and prove himself.
And the 1970's scenario, please, players don't get bashed anymore.

This post has proberly the most common sense for our team this year.

Give the coach & players time & I think the people who do not agree with Price as coach may have egg on their face or have "their pants pulled down"

You're having a bet each way. We neeeeeed Drinkwater, but not really because Soward's doing everything anyway?
tbh I think anything that puts more responsibility and pressure on Soward is a bad idea.

Basically saying Drinkwater doesn't need to try too much too soon as Soward likes to be the main playmaker ,and should be.

Soward has never been that player for us, ever. If he was, it wouldn't matter that Fien or whoever was the 7.

Some of you are dillussional if you think you have to ease everyone in..throw em in the deep end and if their confidence gets shot they will never make it anyway.

This will be an interesting forum if we do

Haha there will be entertainment. Just don't know whether it will be on field or off field.

Seriously though it's a re-building year. We're just planting the seeds this year. We'll harvest in '14 or '15.

Even if we don't make the Finals, we'll be back.

We always build our way back.

92-93, 96, 99, 05-06, 09-11.

With the cap the NRL is cyclical in nature. But we'll be back.
