A number of key players such as Wade Mckinnon, Eric Grothe and Dean Widders have only been signed to short term (in some cases only 1 year) contracts. We're placing so much hope in next year and if we lose our key players to other clubs after performing well then we'll be back where we started.

I don't seem to have that problem. The Roosters usually sign their players on 3 and 4 year contracts. Unless they're retiring like Ricko. And younger players like Anthony Tupou they sign for extended contracts as well. Tupou is on a 4 yr contract atm.
