I see. Thanks for that Father Ted. I only go there five times a year (to eat before the Kogarah home games) and even as a supporter when I walk through the pokie areas, all I see is people gambling, like you said it's a mini casino. If people wanna gamble I don't give a f**k it's none of my business, but it just looks weird to me as a League's Club. I hate all clubs to be honest.

Surely the time is near where the generation that sees 'going to the club and playing the pokies' as their major form of entertainment will soon all be moving in aged care facilities.

I just don't see the younger generations coming through wanting to pour their hard earned into pokies when they all have $500k plus mortgages, and plenty of better things to be wasting their precious time on.

True.

However I think it depends on the area to.

I usually go Canterbury Leagues club for a feed, play squash etc because I live in the area.

But the amount of people they have in their pokies room is crazy and the size of it also.

That area has a heavy concentration of Asian and middle eastern people who absolutely love their gambling (I'm lebanese myself but not much of a gambler). I mean people who are there everyday of the week, My best mate works there and he tells me that room is never below 3/4 full and he does rotating shifts.

It is a very good club, the restaurants are great and the sports bar is awesome.

Saints League club is terrible

I will never forgive te leagues club for the contempt they showed us supporters in the days following the 2010 Premiership. It was like they were completely unprepared for us to celebrate our first premiership in 31 years... Idiots.

My question for Doust is, what the hell would our squad have looked like if Gasnier actually decided to play on with his heavily back ended salary, given that right now we apparently have no room to move??

Very good point. We would probably never have got Ah Mau or Vea!

Just read in RL week in the gossip section two things:

1, It confirmed Crocker popping into St george leagues club and it was in relation to his playing future.

2, Some English clubs have made some big money offers to Hornby but they have been declined....because they have been told that he is retiring this year.

Danny Robinson said words to the effect to me that the Leagues club is very badly designed . Back in the day we used to host live bands, shows etc which they no longer do because a large part of the club upstairs is considered unsafe..

So The club redesigned itself into a small local casino and of course with the anti gambling agenda that is current in society have found itself losing money .. Not all the clubs fault the Pokies tax debate hit hard and the world wide recession we missed has people being very careful with their money ..

Having said all that whenever I go on to the club web site to buy a Polo or whatever it's either not available in my size or just plain not available ..

IMO we just arn't cutting it and are looking at quick fixes like the six club alliance when I believe that fresh blood in the front office is the only way to go..

Yeah fair call I often wonder if these dinosuars have ever been to any other leagues club I remember walking into Panthers leagues club and I was in awe the place is simply awesome! Not to mention that it appeals to all ages and non football fans. Apart from poker machines our club offers nothing it pains me to say it but the place seriously is a hole. They have planety of space and only use certain rooms six days a year! Has the thought occured to them that not on game day those rooms could be something else  ... I doubt but something seriously needs to be done.

Bands from back in the day could be a money spinner like The Sweet or Jon English and also you could have comedy nights bring Steady Eddie or Rodney Rude back. It is something I suggested to them to no avail . I was left with the feeling that the younger crowd is something they don't really welcome because they tend to be louder and harder to control ...What they forget is young people are oftn happy to spend the contents of the wallet on a good night .Also Young people want to listen to live music and some of us older folk enjoy a good band as well. The great problem total control and falling revenue or a bit of anarchy and money in the till..
