A few more points:

A meeting with Peter Doust? In order to gain the clubs' support
Sponsors? I know you said it was not-for-profit but in order to get merchandise, arrange trips etc, sponsorship could help cover the costs????
Legal implications????

We don't want to be affiliated with the club. We want to be stand alone.

Sponsors are not required, as we've already run 4 bus trips without making a single cent and without the help of any sponsors.

peter doust is not required, like mentioned above -- the dragon army has survived for how many years now on the back of NOT being controlled by the club.

having a commitee is not about "controlling" people, we want to do it so that things are better organised and we can grow the army beyond anything that we're doing now.

Yeah sounds good Pete. I'm in for sure. Whn are u looking at getting it off the ground??

As I think stated before I love my season tickets and if required I can tip in $20 etc to get it off the ground.

U fellas do a massive job each week with basically no official structure. I am not a weekly army specialist but after the sharks game I had a ball and will be front and centre army in future.

guys like Stel said. We dont want a leader or a judiciary panel. We want a commitee that can assist in planning etc and also assist when things go wrong at games. It helps keep everyone real.

A fee is a bad idea. Anyone should be able to roll up and join, and pitch in with their share.

Totally agree with Cooper-Man and OurRedV that the army should stand alone, free of influence from the club. Same goes for this forum, we relish our independence.

For many years, the Dragon Army was about voicing an opinion for the fans, not an extension of the club like some other supporter groups seem to be. It sometimes means the army and supporters have come into conflict with the club, but that's a healthy thing.

A few years ago, this sense of independence seemed to get forgotten. But that was then, this is now. It's great to see the army getting back to its roots. A credit to all involved. :thumn

Sounds like a good idea. Charging is a sh*t idea. But generally the ideas about it being independent and being run by a committee are good.

Coops.. I think that you have built more than enough trust with some of the older army members as well as the new over the last few seasons to sit forth on any commitee involved with moving the army forward. Passion is important and you have it.

It is a good idea.

If it wasn't independent, who would complain about the terrible jersey choices? Obviously the club needs to know how bad they are, and if the dragons army all voiced their opinion, Doust might listen.

I agree with the no fee, it should be encouraged that people can just turn up and be a part of it, although if some people wanted to put in to get it started that would be great.

I love how all the sharks fan group had all the same jerseys, even if there someone got a scarf made up, and any of the profits went into development of the army so to speak.

Can anyone explain what has gone wrong at games? What "went wrong" at the Manly game? This thread probably isn't the place for this discussion, so if someone pm'd me it would be greatly appreciated.

Pete, you know my opinion. Happy to do whatever required to see this work, both in terms of start up and moving forward. I also have a few ideas that I would be happy to contribute.

Maybe you could approach the club / Doust re: getting discounted tickets for army members, say $2 off normal ground entry price, that way you would then have an incentive to join the Dragon Army Supporters Club and also help the Dragons build bigger crowds at home games. The club could then use their marketing budget to help fund this.

Quite like the idea of being independent from the club - the only reason to affiliate with the club is to get our own section and even more discounted tickets - but at $80 for GA for 6 games or $150 for 12 or whatever it is, I don't think you are going to do much better for your time.

Best bet is for everyone to pitch in by buying stuff that is useful - people wont pay fees for nothing, but if you say here is a dragon army scarf which looks good and keeps you warm, people will buy it and help make them feel part of the gang.

As for the committee, I think this is the best bit to come from it being official. We don't need a spokesperson - we all have been one of those at some point in our time (myself included), but we need to have people in charge of organising events like bus trips to away games, organising accom and tix on interstate trips, even something as simple as organising events in various states/cities for away games where people are willing to let raving lunatics like us into their homes (although Willow pussed it and said lets go to the pub instead!).

As for putting in, I am quite happy to help out in anyway possible for away trips in Brissy/Goldie (live close enough, even if I am back in NSW now). Also, I am one of those bloody accountants Pete mentioned so more than happy to look after any books required or research into NPO's.

I think charging people a fee each year can be a good idea.

For example: If everyone pays say $50 a year, then that covers any bus trip/sms costs/printing for flyers/banners or whatever

just an idea

pete, stel, and ray do a fantastic job, and should be applauded for the fine organising, that goes on behind the scenes, and i know first hand with pete, that his passion for the team and the army, are first rate, and i hope macca does get something going with the scarfs, they would look awesome, not sure about a fee, very hard looking after and chasing people for money.

make everyone become a member of the St George RLDFC. Thats the only criteria for being in the DA.

Its $10 and you would have a mighty big say come AGM.

And you get $10 worth of party pies, beer and a yearbook.
