I think we have to look at this in reverse tbh, like who are off cintract or are being let go:

Aitken - (centre) reportedly being let go
Allgood - (prop) contract expires 2019
Dufty - (f/b) reportedly being let go
Field - (back utility) contract expires 2019
Kaufusi - (Prop/edge) contract expires 2019
Kerr - (prop) contract expires 2019
Latimore (prop) retired
Maranta - (centre/wing) contract expires 2019
Nicholls - (half) contract expires 2019
Robson (hooker) signed with Nth Qld
Sailor - (f/b utility) contract expires 2019
Timm (prop) apparently not wanted.
Widdop - (half) signed to ESL

The DS squad:
Blacker (prop) - move to top 30
Ford -(edge) move to top 30
Lovodua - (hooker utility) probably move to top 30
Lomax H - (lock) probably stay on DS
Saab - (wing) move to top 30

Tbh it wouldnt surprise me to see the likes of Allgood, Maranta and Nicholls offered 1yr deals. Sailor looks certain to be asked to re-sign and Kerr as well and with the 3 maybe 4 of the current DS added.
Young Schiller will probably be added to the DS for 2020 along with Sullivan.
JDB is the unknown.

2020 squad to look something like:
Allgood, Blacker, Ford, Frizell, Graham, Host, Kerr, Lafai, Lawrie, Lelua, Lomax, Lovodua, Maranta, McInnes, Nicholls, Norman, Pierson, Periera, Ravalawa, Saab, Sailor, Sims K, Sims T, Vaughan.

Thats 24 (add JDB = 25).

DS - Sullivan, Schiller, Lomax H.

Good post, but I think you may have overlooked our highest paid player in the 2020 squad.

Ben Hunt...

Officially we have 19 contracted for 2020. On the NRL website.

Blacker and Ford will move into the top 30 so that's 2 more.

Saab is supposedly a development player next year but will almost certainly move into top 30 next year.

From then on it's just speculation. Some of those off contract will be signed maybe 5-6 which wont be announced until later. Obviously jdb has court proceedings, graham could retire (but why hasn't he announced that yet). we know a few players might be moved on and we can't move anyone on without a replacement in mind.

We will be long odds next year
Seems a bigger gap at our club between firsts n reserves.
Always struggle with depth.

Until we know the official state of the “ apparently asked to look elsewhere/ permission to negotiate with other clubs” etc we are just playing guessing games. Given the number of players off contract I think that Aitken & Dufty will line up for us again next year.

Not overly wrapped in that news but he is a solid bench player.
Whitt, just another young pathways product who has plateaued as a player since being under the microscope of the 3 stooges. Feel that he is still young enough and big enough to make it, but not with these blokes mentoring him. Agree that if he doesn't show improvement next year best for him to move elsewhere. Features of his game before making the NRL was running great lines, good defence and great offloads. Two of those strengths have been negated by the coaches. Nothing that resembles off the cuff gets slammed down by them as they want safety first that will get them top 8 at best , that will retain their jobs.

I looked at the Bulldogs Roster for 2020 and they have 26 of their Top 30 signed up plus1 in their in their Development Squad.
With severe doubt over De Belin and Graham in doubt and signed players Aitken and Dufty told to look for other clubs the Dragons only have 16 players locked up for 2020:-
Ford
Frizell
Hunt
Lafai
Lawrie
Leilua
Lomax
Mc Innes
Norman
Pearson
Pereira
Ravalawa
Saab
K.Sims
T.Sims
Vaughan
What do others think?
What will change our performance in 2020 compared to 2019?
Are there any new signings on the horizon?
Widdop gone, same forward pack.
Even if Aitkin leaves we are still stuck with Lafai, Pearson and no fullback to speak of.
Same coach sans a few assistants.

SuperCoach has a game plan that burns out the forwards and they end up playing busted. Tariq Simms, last year DeBelin and Frizzell, add to that James Graham on old legs. Him and him alone is responsible for any of the young forwards slow progression. They're not allowed to show any creative play because he wants a power game which is out dated. Host will flourish under a more forward thinking coach who would bring out more in him. We don't have that. And by the looks of it still won't next year. He's better off leaving.

With some of the dead wood likely to be retained, the club would be better of dropping them and recruiting from the ladies team, they would do a better job.

We need to measure players, coaching staff and other managers on their performance; not on backroom deals.
