Look I don't want this to turn into a discussion on what usually comes up when he does, but Ben Hunt has been taking up a fairly vocal role on the field. I think when his best games are played, it's those matches where he is fired up and yelling out to the team, and he tends to challenge the ref a bit more than other players too. I recall a match last season that stuck with me, twice in the space of the final 5 minutes of the match (our Cowboys loss I believe) he put on some great attacking and defensive plays which were thwarted by Aitken errors. Hunt absolutely screamed at him in a way I've not seen anyone do since Graham. He also doesn't have the Norman problem of laziness, merely lack of confidence, but never gives up. I think he's never really had ownership of the team since he came here, and I think that might also not suit his style.

Of course, he's not the only option, possibly not even the best one. Merely an observation I've had about him, and I don't believe all dialogue around the bloke needs to be doom and gloom. We should be structuring our entire team around him and his most preferred style of play in my opinion.

I reckon you’re on the money here. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s captain this season.

I’d give up the 2010 premiership if I could take 2016 off the Sharks.
Sharks losing is more important than us winning.
No way would I, 2010 is the only GF win I’ve seen the boys have. 2010 was so far my greatest year lived so far for so many reasons and that was the cherry on top.

Josh Kerr seems pretty logical but only if he stays on the field and from what I have seen he is no way near fit enough.

Ben Hunt and Zac Lomax are the only two other viable options at this point. Hunt has the edge in experience but let's face it, he struggles to master his own domain let alone the team. That leaves Lomax as one of the least experienced captains in the NRL. I guess he will have to do. At least we know he will be around for a while.

Wow, I hope things turn around quickly under Hook because this is so bad it is scary.
Agree, Kerr hasn’t earned it. He talks the talk but he hasn’t walked the walk just yet in terms of cementing his spot and dominating for us. He definitely has potential but he needs to first cement his spot, plus he doesn’t play big minutes. Ben Hunt has too many ups and downs. Zac Lomax is way too young but he speaks well and always puts in. He goes so far out of his way to make an impact in games it’s not funny and does so at right centre which is not an easy position to stand out in. If he yelled at the boys and told them to pick up their game, no one could say he was being a hypocrite. Imo he’s not ready but if this young group can stay together in the Sullivan’s, Feagai bros, Ramsey etc he will be that little bit older and more experienced than them and will undoubtedly become a leader amongst that group. As Sims heads towards retirement, if we were to replace him with Angus Crichton he is also an option.

We definitely know he’s not leaving at least.

I used to say Tariq, since he had the heart and the authority.

Zac maybe too young for now but feels like a good long term choice.

not against Ben Hunt either. (Brutalitops makes a good point above)

currently don’t see any other options.

Hi folks,

With McInnes signing with the Sharks, I daresay he will lose the captaincy, so, who should it be?
Who and why you think should be captain?

I seriously don't know who l would select at this point of time but it should not stay with McInnes.
Would Hunt be more serious with the captaincy?
Tariq Sims I think it’ll really bring the he’s best form out.

Has to be Tariq with Lomax as vice captain so he can take over in couple of years once Tariq moves on.

I considered Ben Hunt but realistically he isn’t a leader & as the season progresses he might even struggle to keep his starting spot in the run on 13.

Interesting debate this captaincy issue.

IMO, Sims isn't the right choice. Given the speed now of the game, decisions have to he made almost instantly (captains challenge for example). I'm not convinced he can do that.

Hunt also doesn't inspire me as a leader, too up and down. Advantage is being close to the action.

Lomax, is he really ready to lead and be heard by others....not sure tbh....not yet.

Dual captaincy is a definite option. Personally, I would go for Vaughan as the starting captain (like at Penrith last season with Tamou). I think Vaughan would be the passive aggressive type and the cataincy may bring on some increased responsibility. The other co-captain would be Hunt. Yes I said above he's up and down, but (for example)15 mins prior half time and 10 or 15 after shouldn't impact the team.

Anyway just my 2c worth.

After listening to McInnes interview. I would keep him captain and then give it to Zac Lomax next year.
He will then become our long term leader.
I have no doubt McInnes will play his guts out this year that’s just the kind of man he is. But I don’t think its appropriate for a departing player to remain club captain & be expected to do all the media etc. Tariq still has 2 years on his deal, we desperately need him to stand up & be a leader so rewarding him with captaincy makes perfect sense to me. Lomax as vice captain so he can step into the captaincy once Tariq moves on.

Don't hear of vice captain anymore? I wonder if its the PC world effect LOL. Ben Hunt Captain and Taric Sims Vice Captain and they can share the media as they are both good at it.
Can’t pick a captain who’s not guaranteed a starting spot. Whereas Sims & Lomax will be among the first picked if fit every week.
