Yes mate, our backline is being shown up for how bad it really is.

Peirera - l like this guy but watching him catch a ball and try to run is like watching John Travolta with strobe lights on a dance floor. He's all over the place. There is nothing fluent about him and to be honest, he has gone backwards this season.

Rava - Just not first grade material.

Lafai - Well, Barrett was nicknamed, Period, caused he only turned up once a month. With Lafai, l think the nickname of Menopause is suitable cause he refuses to put out at all!

Aitken- This guy tries his heart out but was born with two left feet and struggles to attack or defend. He does put a decent effort every now & then.

Duffy - Unfortunately, young Duff bruises easily and loses all confidence too quickly. Another who can blitz it when on fire but with our spine out of shape, he's not getting the attack right and his defence is indefensible.

Pearson - Hasn't had the game time in the big league and is like a teenager reaching puberty..... (not knowing what to do next)..... which doesn't help our backline in time of need.

Hunt is proving to be the Range Rover of players ...... capable of setting the standard but more likely needing a tow to get him moving again. Definitely missing the leadership of Widdop.

Our coach is a model of consistency in achieving sweet FA regardless who we put on the field.
glad Widdop gets a mention....I miss ol Widdop cant wait to have him back

For far to long now, I have watched good players come onto the market only to see SGI not chase them or to miss out on their signatures. Later we seem to sign bog average players at a bargin price with hope we can turn them into stars.

It is the easy and lazy road for recruitment to just let players go bye, past the June 30 date and then front end some players already on our roster who we want to keep. This leaves more dollars available for the following season but does nothing for the current season.

In 2019, our season is already gone half way through the competition. At the end of may, just one month away from the deadline we have not secured any real extra talent to replace De Belin and/or to solve problems in our backline. Could it be that given Mary has a gap year handed to him by the Board, we are going to right ff this season, front end players we want to keep and chase new recruits who will only impact the 2020 salary cap.

I believe it more sensible to pick up some players that are on the market now and then test them in first grade along with others that still need more first grade experience such as Timm, Kerr, Saab and any others the coach is reluctant to try. If these players go well, keep them and if they do not show potential, let them go.

I agree possm we do seem to sign fringe first graders. I believe that the reason of this is our club feel they can turn these players we sign into stars just like Bellamy can.
The problem is that our coach struggles with players that have got talent so the chance that he can turn a average player around is Zero.

The main point hwre Possm is that;
We turn good players into bog average, whilst our (what we consider) bog average players are turned into good players elsewhere.

How can that be ? After all we have a supercoach, whilst other teams have coaches deemed unworthy by our Board. Very strange!

Who are the good players we hired (from other clubs - cause you can only measure current 1st grade signings as good, not lower grades) that we have turned back their form into bog average?
Hunt and Widdop are still certainly not bog average.Cant think which good players we signed whose form has dropped with us.
What is more fact and to the point is that we sign too many bog average fringe players or lower graders in hope and our cumbersome repeated game plans do not utilise their strengths or improve them into good 1st graders.
Vaughan, McInnes and based on last years form T.Sims are exceptions who improved from their prior clubs.

Our Recruiting Is like fishing.
Some like to go out further to try & catch the “bigger” ones & others (our club) like to sit on the wharf & catch “little” ones with the hope that they fluke a big one every now and then.

Having said that we don’t know that behind the scenes we aren’t actually trying to sign the better players.

Good post blacksafake , more so the last paragraph , we really don’t know to what extent our recruitment has gone to sign the more notable players on the market . Nor the circumstances as to why the club has been rejected in favor of another . Being only human we the fans need to focus our disappointment upon someone - usually Millward himself , which in itself is unfair to the man and his staff . Unfortunately our only glimmer of the true reasons is from the media whom in most cases are completely and utterly wrong .

Yep, that recruitment guy at the Rabbits must be crap as well, fancy having back up players that get rolled against a team thats been beaten by the last placed Panthers and the 3rd last placed (at that time) Cowboys. Bennett must be fuming!!!
Oh wait, I just read Bennett praised his youngsters and said that he will (most probabky) rest his SOO players when they return, again backing his younsters.
Meanwhile, at the Dragons we will flog our SOO players, expect them to back up, fatigued or injured, whilst our young or promising players languish in CC or sit for 76mins on the bench. No wonder we have 2nd half of season fade outs and no wonder our youngsters want to leave.
But as I said that Bunnies recruitment guy needs to be sacked now!!!

Yes ever so right , however that all comes back to the coach , not the recruitment department. And if I was Bennett I also would had praised their efforts and kept them in the top grade as replacements for after SOO duties . But that is Bennett , not our maestro .

Our club's recruitment like to do the easy deals and are all at see trying to do the hard deals.

Was hoping this post would give me something to look forward to come our next game. Are we recruiting to cover JDB and whose joining the group to cover injuries as we must be getting thin on backups for NRL squad.

Now in Okehampton, south England and I wait up every morning after a few Guinness's the day before (the wife is keeping count, so I have to sneak an extra one here and there) to read if that Robinson bloke is leaving and what replacements are on coming on board.
Oh well, no news may be good news.

Possm like reading your posts but when it comes to recruitment .....
What would you like recruitment to do ? They are offering a coach where players go backwards not forwards
I'd like recruitment to first settle quality players into our top 30 and then go for depth players. This season we have plenty of fringe backline players but only a couple of quality first grade backs. As a rule of thumb replacing as close as possible like for like is the way to go.

As far as our coach is concerned, I'm sure that recruitment do not mention the drawbacks of having such a useless coaching staff.

I'd say if recruitment are going to use Mary as an excuse, then they should say so to management. The problem is that they are all looking after each others back and only interested in deals within the old boys club being honoured.

There’s a good chance that you could do a bit of ‘ talent scouting ‘ for the Dragons whilst you are in England and pass onto recruitment any likely lads to bolster our premiership hopes ( that’s for next season C.C. ) . Anyhow enjoy your stay and have a couple of pints for me . :innocent:

Good to see you know so much of the internal workings of our club or is it just your thoughts ?

You know the Millward family is from England so one would think they would have an advantage of picking the eyes out of the best talent in the ESL. But no, all we hear is crickets.

Two forwards we should go after are Arrow from the Gold Coast and Welch from Melbourne. A couple of descent outside backs would also be handy.
Jai Arrow is a gun and would be a good replacement for DeBellin
