Does anyone watch the English game closely? I read Kallum Watkins wants out... Had played about 25 tests for England and is open to nrl offers. Only issue is he is on the comeback trail from a serious knee injury

True about rules for some....and then Inglis being ruled out suddenly game them $1 mill to spend?..for next years cap. Funny when a player leaves a club we hear how much they are really on.

Anyway 27 days to go to sign 2 players. Can we do it and sign 2 fringe journeyman again with apparently little cap wriggle room for some reason?..
And that is for allowing for the Widdop departure in 2020 and onwards and applying for JDB compo which we will need to do again next year.

Okay, the auction winners most likely wouldn’t be used to actually play, but if the spots are vacant anyway and not likely to be filled, it could be a fun experiment whilst gaining the club an extra $250...

Mole posted the rumour today. IF Watkins is being offered to NRL clubs, Dragons should quickly say 'No thanks'.

Unfortunately we are compelled to fill them, so 2 fans will do.
Why not sign the fans to a further 2 year deal at $200 a game and register their contracts at minimum wage $100K. Each fan can give the $95,000 back to the club to help pay for something else.
Save some dosh under the cap to sign some real talent amongst our 28.

I wasn't sure about this either but I'll take your word for it BLMO1. An immediate problem is that we actually need two top class backs as we obviously lack both a 'top class centre and a winger and it's more usual that a winger can play full-back than centre these days due to how the game has evolved. So Dallin WZ I think has only played wing and full back for Penrith. But we can only replace like with like for De Belin (how we do this with the uncertain time frame is beyond me) so we might have to punt on someone like Pereira as a centre and recruit a winger- I'd like DWZ to come to the Dragons but miserly Millward has probably got another cheapie like Maranta in his sights!

Anyway we're all probably wasting our time speculating on these sites as I tend to agree with Possm that we're shot ducks for 2019. Its time to give all our promising young players extended time in the NRL to see who can cut it ahead of a cleanout at the end of the year- hopefully including the coach?
