Most clubs and we used to have, a recruitment/pathways/retention staff that work/reports to, the head coach. The head coach then reports to the CEO or in some clubs the football manager.
Which head coaches at St George?, I can tell you factually that kids pathways and lower grades were not reporting to Bennett while he was here. So that leaves Brown, Farrar & Price in recent memory and I doubt that.
Which head coaches at the NRL are reported to directly by the pathways or the junior development people and take the time to get involved?, not talking about recruitment manager here, to quote you.

I agree its the coach that is largely to blame , but you say 1 winger and 1 centre. I think we need more than that for our backline.

Our 1 through 5 is either bog average or yet to be shown up as first grade material. Lafai on his day, goes well, Lomax may come good, Dufty ... no idea.
your right ,but a gooood coach would help.

If they reporting to a manager, than that manager reported to the head coach. Please advise who you think they reported too.

No, you said St George used to and other NRL coaches are reported to by all and sundry including pathways. I asked you who in both St george and NRL 1st?...then I will answer your supplementary question which in Bennetts tenure was the board.
Not all clubs have a general manager but heading that way...black sheep syndrome

We have answered why. So explain how is that Millwards recruitment's fault and how should he do things your way with hands tied?
Millward is a useless recruiter, The only good signings are a gamble that pays off. Most of his good signings are players that their current club wanted to discard.

DWZ was available and so many on here said we didn't have a chance because DWZ had a close association with Madge at the Tigers; the Tigers had the inside running so Millward did not have a chance to sign him.

Move on a couple of days and DWZ signs with the Bulldogs. Their coach is on a par with Mary when it comes to credibility and the Club is sitting towards the bottom end of the ladder just like SGI. The simple fact is that their recruitment officer obviously had a better pitch than ours. See article below:

DWZ signs with Bulldogs after bitter Panthers exit
The contract saga surrounding Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is finally over after the Canterbury Bulldogs landed the signature of the New Zealand captain on Sunday morning.
What began with interest from the Eels, and led to discussions with the Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys, has finished with the 23-year-old inking an 18 month contract with the Bulldogs.

However the Tigers, who were in the best position to sign him given the relationship with New Zealand coach Michael Maguire, were unable to move a player on in time to secure his signature.

Watene-Zelezniak was released by the Panthers on Friday night after he was dropped from the club’s NRL team three weeks ago.

A huge attraction to the Bulldogs was his existing relationship with Reimis Smith, the son of Watene-Zelezniak’s manager Tyran Smith, and fellow Mormon Will Hopoate – who is also managed by Tyran Smith.

The Cowboys were appealing, however Watene-Zelezniak was reluctant to relocate with his family given he has two young kids.

It’s understood Watene-Zelezniak informed Maguire he wouldn’t be joining the Tigers on Saturday, before agreeing to terms with the Bulldogs later that night.

Watene-Zelezniak’s release from the Panthers opens up a spot on the club’s roster, which as revealed by NRL.com on Saturday, could be filled by Tyrone Peachey.

"The acquisition of Dallin is fantastic news for the club and the vision we have going forward," Bulldogs CEO Andrew Hill said.

"Not only is Dallin a great player but he is a quality person and a leader. As the current Kiwi captain he provides us with both class and proven ability and he will be a major addition to our back line.

"On the back of Joe Stimson from the Storm agreeing to terms last week, Dallin’s signing is another significant step in the right direction for the club and we welcome Dallin and his family to Belmore and look forward to our members and fans getting the chance to watch him play."

Do you stop to think or know that likely the Dogs in desperation paid overs for him as the current NZ captain. That alone demands big dosh as market value. Is he worrth it?. Panthers dont think so. Tigers could not afford him, they said so themselves, obviously nor could we had room under the cap for him.
Cowboys, Parra, Tigers apparaently all interested. They and Panthers all all hopeless recruiters too!

SGI didn't even get a mention, which means Millward was out of his depth. We bought too many nuffys and because of this we may be short on salary cap or may not. Who knows, no one is honest enough to say.

I am getting the feeling that Millward does not have a good relationship with the various player managers which is an essential element in getting heads-up notification on players wanting to move or clubs wanting to shop players around.

You said we were and could not get the deal done? Maybe we were not interested as probably 12 other clubs.
You know nudder and your gut feelings are just that. I am sure if you ask, Basil will open up the books for you to view so the club can show its honesty to you.
I agree we buy Nuffys, but I blame the club as a whole not just Millward for the salary cap position we are in.
Our coaches dont attract good players at real market value
Coaching staff get a final say in hire and fire
TPA's well there in lies another problem..

1/2 our cap would be gone in 7 players in 19. Hunt, Widdop, Vaughan, Frizz, JDB, Sims x 2,
Roughly $5 mill left / 23. You do the average and math. I guarantee a good handful are on over that average left with a minimum NRL contract wage of about $105K.

Agree Smurf but management is also doing a great job of Wrecking us
Good on ya Sammy, you've got it!

We need a clean out of management staff and deadwood players to begin the climb back to the top of the ladder where we belong. Bring in Gould to start the ball rolling.

I guess the fact that they have more money to spend and the reality that he will not have to re locate don't come into the picture....keep pushing the anti - millward agenda....ignore the facts....LOL

But recruitment are doing a fine job thank you very much!
According to you if we don’t have the current Australian train on squad, player for player, then recruitment is not doing their job.

We have a decent squad and a thick as a brick coach. Yes, we are lacking two wingers and surprise surprise a lock. That aside the current squad is a top 6 minimum. The coach himself had said he finally has the squad he wants. Yet he’s f**ked it with so many incomprehensible coaching decisions this year, and that’s just the decisions we know of.

Well said....and add to that players promised a spot and then don't get a run resulting in player X wanting to leave....and its all Millward,s fault... Laughable..

I am just wondering what people mean when they refer to juniors. Personally, I think there is a big difference between a player who came through all the local junior rep teams compared to an 18 year old who comes in from outside the local system to play under 20s.

The NRL should be encouraging clubs to develop their local juniors and bring them through to first grade. However, given the way the system works clubs that want to be successful need to concentrate on identifying talent to bring into their system from outside at the 17/18 year old age. At present there is no incentive to spend money on true local juniors and even less incentive to look at lower level local senior competitions for prospects. A player of 21/22 who is not in the NRL has passed their opportunity.

In short the NRL needs to remember this is a sport first and not just a form of entertainment. Participation and opportunity at all levels are needed for the long term health of Rugby League.
