I went to watch the wallabies last night. Geez, now that is a rabble of a team that doesn't play with heart! Surely Chieka is on his last legs?
Embarrassing.

I should also have said I think last night was the final proof needed that union in Australia is dying a slow and painful death not dissimilar to the Dragons at the moment. However, the Dragons IMO can be revived for union it's terminal.

Can I ask those optimistic about making the 8 - what's the point? What do you want to see? Realistically (save for the opposition suffering 4-5 major injuries prior to the game) we arent going to go close to week 2, let alone a premiership, this year with this coach.

So either we make the 8 and get bundled out in the first round of playoffs, meanwhile Mary and the board declare the season a success (because coming 8th is apparently a yardstick for success) and use it to justify their extension of McGregor, that smug f**khole gets another year of 'well we made the 8 last year' and the wheel of mediocrity keeps on turning, never allowing our club to return to on field glory...

OR

We miss out, Mary gets confirmed as the coach who oversaw the biggest fall from grace in NRL history (to go with all the other negative records he holds), fan pressure builds back up and the club has to deal with another off-season of fans unhappy about the result, meaning less chance Mary sees out his contract and our opportunity to actually build into a successful team again begins sooner...

Well Said Benny V....

BennyV,
I understand what you're saying, but McGee-up will be coach for the next two seasons. Even if we miss the 8 we're stuck with him not only because he's contracted but we should improve again next year with a better roster.
I'm pretty sure the majority of us want Mary gone but he ain't going anywhere soon.
I don't think too many of us are remotely optimistic about this year any more, even if we crawl into the 8. I think it's just some fun banter mate that's all.
Once we're officially out of it this year the knives will return.

Wether we make the 8 or not is irrellevant as our season was done with the re-signing of McGregor.
If we make the 8 then jolly good let the trumpets blow and announce McGregor as the master coach.
Miss the 8 (probably 9th or 10th) and soynd the trumpets again as we have defied the critics who had us challenging for the spoon. Again announce McGregor as the master coach.
Either way we loose. Making the 8 just gives us an extra week of football nothing more.
At leadt our U20's may see 2 weeks of finals and i, for one, will cheer them on.

What will probably happen knowing the dragons is games fall our way today meaning Raiders by 1 point and Dogs beat Manly.
Next week the Dragons beat the Panthers taking us into the 8. We win well and confidence is extremely high.
Fast forward to round 26 when as all as we need to do is simply win against the Bullgrubs, we are hot favourites and already looking ahead to week 1 of the finals and guess what, they flog us. Yes that shitty, pathetic team that can't beat anybody will somehow send those thugs Reynolds, Eastwood & Kasiano out as winners, scoreline Bulldogs 26, Dragons 6. Reynolds kicks a conversion from the sideline in the 79th minutes to really p!ss everyone off.
We finish 9th.

Benny I think an optimist has always got some 'hope' and they want to see that 'dream' become reality. Now in terms of reality, I think even the most optimistic person here would be very real about the Dragons chance if we got in the 8, that just maybe they do win week one but I can't imagine them winning week two as well.

Finishing 8th shouldn't be the yardstick - completely agree. However making finals and playing a positive brand of football is an improvement from where we were before - that doesn't mean I'm happy and satisfied but it does mean at least I see an uplift from the past 5 seasons.

I don't think Mary had overseen the biggest fall from grace - that's Price IMO.

The reality is you think missing finals is better for the club as Mary may get sacked, for me the reality is he will be there next season, regardless. So therefore as s supporter of the club I want them to have the best possible season given the circumstances

Your claim was that the Melbourne game was the first time we were put on show. I disagree, the Eels game was the first, they showed literally every other team how to beat us and once the other teams got their act together, we started losing and had no back up plan.

Actually, I qualified my earlier post with the words "stern opposition". Despite their improvement, I wouldn't consider Parramatta anywhere near the same class as the Storm.

In reality, Saints were particularly 'shit-actular' against the Eels, and shot itself in both feet with an mistake riddled display.

Comparatively, Melbourne exposed all the obvious flaws for all to see.

'Option B' is far more palatable.

McGregor has to go for any meaningful improvement to take place.

Did you really believe Saints were a realistIc chance to begin with?

Given its flaws, I'm just relieved the team didn't finish at the tail end of the ladder. Of course, beating Manly (twice) is better than sex.
but someone has to take cowboys spot they won't win another game

If they beat the pennies like they did in rd1, it'd give them a world of confidence and the ability to smash the dogs last round. Still think we are a good chance of playing finals.
