I'm gonna go there:

It would be a good thing for the club if we lose this. There's no points on offer so who the hell cares. To lose to an injury-riddled English superleague team who've travelled across the globe from an English winter to play on a hot Sydney summer afternoon, would be a great step towards sacking McGregor. We need that more than a trial win.

I went there.

I like the coaching outcome ur looking for Grouch, but Sportsbet see a cup half full - with us at $1.80/$2.00 against the Donkeys!
Even $19 for the title's not a total slap down.
I'd certainly take that next year, with a new coach.

Interesting Herbert is playing ISP, yet Lomax and Garrick made the first grade squad.

I would have thought Herbertt was higher up on the pecking order, unless Lomax really is a freak who has proven in pre season he can make the jump to FG now.

Giboz
Lomax has been killing it at training as has garrick. Two of the better trainers as the young guns. Also as you say garrick is ready for the wing as well.
Plus lomax is a better kicker of goals as well.
These could be some of the reasons.

Well it seems most clubs always seem to produce an 18-20 yr old backline freak that comes out of nowhere.

Michell for the Roosters and Cotric for the Raiders are the latest examples. French and Addo Carr as well.

Despite our rich juniors, our guys never seem to make the jump hence we’ve had to rely on the likes of old man Nighty to compete against players who are all faster and stronger.

Hopefully Lomax can buck that trend.

Jack Bird's probably been the best junior in the NRL for a while. We helped him along the way even though he had to take Mary's 'pathways' detour - FMD we got Aitken & Hasler's reject instead of Jack?!
Hell, 22 yrs old, GF win at 21 then SOO & Kangaroo. Anyone beat this Wollongong boy's achievements recently?
And after being frig*ed around for so long just watch Cook come back to bite us this year - and Milne - & Nona might have something to say as well, now JD's mentoring

We have great juniors in spite of deplorable management & a coaching vacuum after Demetriou left

It’s interesting - based on last year, Herbert was above Garrick in the order (playing out the year in ISP while Garrick bounced back and forth to NYC). I can see Lomax jumping to cue but either Garrick has stepped it up or Herbert has dropped off over the off season.

Not so sure BV. Maybe its because they want Herbert to play a longer minute trial so hes ready. Considering too that the first grade squad has Lafai Mann and Aitken who i would say will get the majority of minutes. Lomax and Garrick will intechange on wings with Nighty probably getting around 20mins.
Herbert will probably get a full game.

I maybe way off but its the only explanation that fits unless hes litterally dropped the ball at training.

It’s ironic that none of our recent junior brigade has done anything of note.

Yet the one guy who pretty much everyone on this forum knew was something special we let out the door.

Rookie of the year, Origins and premiership winner by the age of 21 and we deemed him not ready for FG.

FMD.

you forgot to mention jack is overweight at the age of 21. heart disease biggest killer in Australia. broncos must not look after there high profile players. just look at Milford the overweight sloth

No injuries
A good showing from our spine as a start to building those combinations
Some slick backline plays(it is possible)
Graham being a vocal leader
Vaughan to pick up from where he left off
Not too fussed if we win by 4, 14 or 40

The above is what I would like to see. Keep it simple.

It’s a game we should give everyone in the squad a run to showcase their talent.

Winning is a secondary objective.

We have the talent to beat them easily

That’s how I feel. It’s been a loooong off season. Will be good to talk about the game instead of who we should sign, shouldn’t sign, should let go, should keep etc. etc.
