Hi Guys,
If you're into progressive music.. be it metal or rock.. or even other.. and haven't heard of this band.. you must go and get hold of some songs and have a listen. If you already know who i'm talking about.. then i've got no doubt you will be interested in this.

Dream Theater currently have a poll for people to "demand" they come to their area to play a show. DT haven't been to australia since i have started listening to them (i think they were here in 97.. but i was only 11 at the time) but they are amongst the most talented musicians in the world - both as writers and performers. If you are an appreciater of music of just about any genre, i guarentee there is something these guys have that you will like.

So please, show some support and get some of the most gifted musicians in the world to come give us a show.. go and DEMAND that they come and visit us.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it go.
Nothing to lose and all that right?

I noticed on the weekend, on their official website they have a new CD coming out soon, so who knows, maybe they'll come on down this time around.

yeah, the new album is called Systematic Chaos. the tracklist looks excellent.. and they're under a new label for the first time now (they've moved to Road Runner from Warner) so that is another huge boost to the chances of them coming.. as i've seen many road runner signed bands come down this way.

This link was posted as a bulletin from dream theaters official myspace.. so the results of this "demanding" will definately be taken into consideration from the band itself. It's definately the best chance we've ever had at getting them down here.

I don't think they've ever been here actually, they may have, but I haven't heard about it. I was a massive Dream Theater fan a few years back, That Scenes From a Memory album was great. But I don't really listen to them any more.

Funny thing is John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, and Derek Sherinian were all in Aus recently at the same time (doing G3 and Malmsteen shows). Would have been nice if they did some half-arsed DT thing.

i believe steve vai was also with them. my mate was supposed to be organising our tickets.. and didn't.. and i missed the show. could've KILLED him. lol

ahhh well.. sh!t happens.. i hope i can count on you giving a vote :D. you could be right about dream theater never having been to australia, i only heard off a friend of a friend that his friend went to see them in 97... it could have been a load of sh!t.

if you've heard them, you know how good they are.. support the effort to bring them down under :)

They're worth seeing purely for Portnoy, but of course they have some great albums ... and A Change of Seasons is one of the greatest tracks ever written.

I'll be seeing them if they tour

Thought I'd bring this back to the top because...

It's been confirmed! They're coming to Australia late January/ early February.
Tickets go on sale November 30.

Here's the official link:

What an awesome month next February is going to be, first DT, then a couple of weeks later it's Iron Maiden.
Hope Brisbanes Riverstage is a decent venue.

Petrucci was here this year for G3 and Portnoy was here at the same time giving a drum clinic.

f**king awesome - I can't wait.

I wish they'd toured Australia after Scenes From A Memory. Apparently they performed the entire album as a play then did another hour and a half of other material.

Portnoy = God

I'd be surprised if they played BDO - mainly because I doubt the organisers would know who they are

Yeah, even if they did, DT wouldn't be given the time on stage they need.

just reading through the thread.. and somehow i missed this post earlier. They did do a whole tour dedicated to the album.. i actually had the DVD imported "Metropolis 2000: Live scenes from New York". absolutely fantastic.. seeing it live and in the flesh would have been a very memorable experience. They had a projector show in the background playing through a video recording of the storyline. crappy actors and production quality.. but it was effective nonetheless.

You lucky bas***ds!!! Doubt they'll ever come to NZ. Too bl**dy small.

Anyway enjoy DT. Hopefully they'll play some tracks from Images & Words and/or Scenes From A Memory. My two fave DT albums. Or even better would be the title track from the EP "A Change Of Seasons"!!! :)

Ahhh yes, the 23-minute epic - one of the all-time great tracks.

Images and words is my fave too - Metropolis!!!
