"Due for a loss" and other myths...

The idea that a team can be "due for a loss" is a myth people, please dont get sucked in by it. I've seen it bandied around town alongside its equally unattractive cousin "with each win you are closer to a loss". Time for some Adam and Jamie style myth-busting - both of these concepts are bullsh*t. They are merely a lame rationalisations uttered strictly by losers. Note: they are usually prefixed by "We tried our best" - and to quote Sean Connery from The Rock: "losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f*ck the prom queen." I want the prom queen this year - and I know that this year, she wants us too. Come to daddy baby.

Another thing I hate is when they talk about the "history" of a team over a long period against another team or at a certain ground.

What is the relevance of (for example) how the Dragons of 2000 did against the Eels of 2000? For the most part, they are different rosters, different staff etc.
What, does the Dragon totem have a problem with the Eel totem or some such drivel?

St George, Souths, Easts and Balmain have all had undefeated seasons.

In 1955 Souths were running dead last half way through the year and looked set to take the wooden spoon. But they won every match from there on in to make the semis and win the premiership.

I'm sure they were considered one match closer to a loss as well.

The Sharks weren't "due for a loss" they lost because they played a better team. Simple.

"due for a loss" is like saying a roulette wheel is more likely to finish on red because the last ten spins have all been black. It's a fallacy, the result of the previous game in itself does not affect the probable outcome of the next.

Saints lost 4 games in '56 - Newtown round 5 (4-14), Balmain round 8 (11-22), Souths round 9 (6-28), and Wests round 16 (21-27), though we did take the title that year (the start of the golden run) against Balmain 18-12. Our undefeated season was 1959, with the only non victory being a 20 all draw against Balmain in round 11, going on to defeat Manly 20-0 in the big one.
