When the coach keeps offering excuse after excuse its no wonder the players arc up when they are not applauded....like him they can see no wrong and think its totally acceptable to make the 8 out of 16 teams year after year....I have been an avid admire of young Dufty since I first laid eyes on him and was excited when he got his 1st grade promotion and whilst I realise he is still young and immature he will fast lose me if he keeps coming out with statements like we just heard.....we dont boo our own when we lose if we think they gave tbeir all.....and I dont blame the fans that were there that showed their disproval......I would have booed them as well if I had been there.....having said that I showed what I thought of our lack of effort yesterday by going for a walk at 18 nil

Dogs fans don't vent because they don't turn up when they play crap. They only turned up yesterday because they hit a bit of form but from memory they had a game earlier this year at Belmore and only got something like 5000 fans or so to the game.

Matt’s a young rookie fullback still learning the ropes of being an NRL player.

Comments like that to a journo which everyone knows will be twisted to suit an agenda shows he’s not being mentored effectively. These young guys need to mentored by great leaders of men on and off the field.

Clearly this shows this doesn’t happen at the Dragons. I highly doubt any of the Storm rookies under Bellamy would make comments like that in public.

Fair point.

It's one thing to think these thoughts- I'm sure many a footballer has looked at a crowd and though "what a bunch of f@#$wits".

It's another thing to say them to someone who will put it into the public domain. I agree he needs mentoring.

I'm also not prepared to give up on the kid. He's having a hard time now, but many young players do after initial success in FG. He's young and talented, and this experience should toughen him mentally. If not, well- probably joins a list of talented players who weren't up to the rigours of FG.

Personally, I think he is in the former category.

Matt Dufty on abusive fans:

'Without being rude, they need to wake up to themselves... We've made the finals. Instead of throwing criticism they could show us some support. We try not to focus on external noise but it's hard not to when it's your own fans."

This is the problem .. “we’ve made the finals”... the low bar of mediocrity.. they needed to be drilled with a “foot on the throat” mentality early on in the season. Instead they all believed the world beaters ‘press’ and fell in hook line and sinker.

The fish rots from the head down .. and his ‘rot’ is the adopted mindset now... excuses, kick the tin down the road, always next week, someone else’s fault, tow the ‘company line’.

Given Dufty was ‘benched’ yesterday for reportedly an “attitude adjustment”... you would think he would have been ‘managed’ well enough to not comment on the ‘outside noise’

I guess to think anyone is actually managing anything in the place is actually wishful thinking...

Drain the swamp... if we miss this chance now to do so.. you may never get rid of the leeches.
"attitude adjustment"? Looks like it had the opposite affect.
Considering he had a 60 minute shocker on Sunday, a little humility would have been more appropriate than a ridiculous social media rant.
I agree with you. It seems no one is really managing the joint otherwise this young fella would never have been allowed to post what he did.

Do you guys even read what you’re posting?

There are 15 other clubs who’d take Dufty in a heartbeat.

Fans, commentators and even league experts rate him as an exciting prospect.

But no, let’s hang him out to dry and lament the loss of a player who hasn’t made grade.

I know yesterday’s loss was hard to take, but surely you’re not all still drunk?

Apparently dufty went on social media to give it to the fans who booed the team
Shows his immaturity should keep his comments to himself and play bloody football
Ummmm... "Apparently..." you say. Not saying it isn't so but how about we see the evidence?

Herbert is going to the Warriors and Dufty is not up to it. Slot Lomax in now in readiness for 2019. Let's see if we need to let Dufty go and shop for a fullback in the off-season.

Also, bring in a good coach now and give a chance to progress in the finals. If Bennett is not coming then bring in Hasler or Maguire for the rest of 2019. Hornby and Young are part of the problem and so should also be sent on their way.

When you're used to accolades and plenty of them it is no doubt hard to adjust to the harsh reality of life in the real world.
The stupidity of the social media issue with Dufty is that surely we must have "minders" who are educating the team especially the young players not to respond to certain types of outbursts by fans.
Our club should be making statements to the team that "we played shit today and we are going to cop plenty of Facebook etc so we will answer in the following manner.
"To all our fans we know we let you down today and that much more was expected of us. We are all taking the loss badly and whilst we can't change that result we can assure we are taking note of how disappointing we were and we will be doing everything in our power to ensure no repeat performances. Thanks for sticking with us and we look forward to hearing your cheers again very soon"
Obviously HO is to f**king stupid to get in front of the game on such important matters as keeping the fan base informed and as happy as circumstances can allow.
For a start, the team is totally embarrased. They know they are busted.
Secondly, the coach will not survive the off season. Nothing short of a miraculous turnaround will save him. And that won't happen because the players are busted and completely without confidence.
Thirdly, Facebook? Seriously, you're looking at something that wil die out not too long after MvGregor's stint.

Here we have the new world of the anti-social media. Even when you post evidence that Dufty never tweeted this there are those still willing to believe that he did.

Spot on. Dufty is young and low on confidence. What do you expect when you are managed by mary? He's a fantastic prospect.

He's probably guilty of saying something to the wrong person, but doesn't look like he tweeted the comment himself. He may be guilty of bad judgement (thank Christ social media wasn't around when I was his age), but again I think this can be related to poor management.

Can you see the common denominator?
