Dufty is Shit

Defence, tackling is not half the equation for a fullback. How many tackles does a fullback make a game on average, Maybe around 5 tackles a game. Even the best defensive fullbacks can get beaten all ends up and made to look silly when they are at the back, all by themselves. Attack is a major part of a fullback's game. Ability under the high ball, cleaning up grubbers, positional play regarding kicks is all as important if not more important than their ability to defend/tackle at the back. Dufty has more speed than Dugan, which gives him an advantage when cleaning up grubbers or getting to a kick on the full in general play. Given a bit of space at the back, Dufty is also a much more dangerous player than Dugan to opposition defence's.

His speed also makes him a much better prospect, when our halves put an attacking kick in. Just think of how many times the likes of Slater and Stewart got to an attacking kick from one of their halves. Dufty should also provide many, many more try assists than Dugan and therefore, should also create much more room for our halves and centres. It has been very rare that Dugan has done that in the last few years.

I am seeing more and more positives about having Dufty at fullback, than Dugan. Dugan's goal line defence and ability to hold a player up in goal are probably his only better attributes than Dufty at fullback.

I know we have differing opinions but I cant agree about the importance of a fullbacks defence. The tackles they make are some of the most important ones in the game and diffusing bombs and cleaning up grubbers are part of what I classify as defence.

Without seeing Dufty clean up any grubbers in first grade you have decided he is better than Dugan at this because he is faster. More important than speed in cleaning up grubbers is reading the game and being in position. Dugan has been excellent at this over the years and has been one of the games best. If Dufty proves to be better than Dugan, great, but at this time he hasn't yet shown it.

I hope Dufty makes it as one of the greats of all time but, he has had one first grade game, there is a long way to go. He played well but there are important parts of his game that need to show improvement.

Was chatting to a female teacher of his on Thurday night . She is a mad Souths supporter and was saying she would love to have him at Souths . She went on to tell me that he was a complete little SH*T at school . In saying that she said he was very strong willed and had a bit of arrogance about him which was a good thing as well when it came to sports . She had no doubt he will make it whether its with us or someone else . Time will tell .....

Not sure about Dufty, but after tonights game Ben Hunt is shit.

He was ordinary, yes. The whole Broncos spine (except McCullough) were ordinary. Milf looks like he weighs about as much as my house, Boyd struggled in general and Hunt was swamped every time he touched the ball.

He reminds me of myself before the weight of the world crushed my spirit.

Dufty is the best attacking fullback we've had in years. It's not often we've had speed and ball playing ability at the back.

However, this must be said. He is a liability in defence. When has he ever saved us a try through putting his body on the line. His cover defence is shocking. Loose arms every time. He needs to show more desperation, I knew his defence would come back to bite us.

Please improooove him Master Coach!

Agreed. But that was always going to be a massive trade off with Dugan. I still prefer an attacking fullback though.

Agree. I'm not saying replace him, but jeez it's annoying.

Agree. Have always said the same and it will get us at times through the year. We don't have any tall, big strong quick men at the back ala Morris boys of old but I'll take attack over another season of Dugan's great defence but offering little in attack.

If you take tonight's game in as an example, then both Widdop and Hunt missed one on one tackles to concede tries.
Kearney had the tactics to not only nullify Dufty but also to isolate him in defence.
Our stats were great but yet we still lost.
Coaches will devise tactics to nullify our strengths if we do not change our game plans.
Our kicking game was woeful today but mainly because the Warriors gave our kickers no time especially close to the line.
Hats off to Kearny and the Warriors tonight - too good.

Not his best game.

Can’t keep relying on running around in circles and trying to burn defenders.

He will learn.

No Mickeylane, his tackling technique is pathetic. Just telling it like it is. Last week Val Holmes ran over him and it was only Sims there that got him into touch. It's just week in week out, cover defence. We just have to live with it.

Everything else, I love!

Most fullbacks will miss them 5 metres out from the line including guys like Slater....Stop and take a deep Breath.............He is still learning his craft...hasn't even played a full season yet........He did hold up the ball in some no tries in previous games ...GIVE THE KID TIME.
