Drags already owned up to not liking dufty in another thread so his comments need to be taken as such
So does that mean he doesn't like Luciano too?
Luciano is a fat lazy bastard. Lots of potential but isn't showing up. He's playing with the same coach as in NYC. If you don't see alarm bells that's fine. He should take a leaf out of his brother's book. Nothing is handed on a silver platter, He needs a kick up the arse because he could get there. I'm just not seeing any fight in him whatsoever.
out if curiosity who do u like as a player? Also who doesn't need to work on something in their game? Dragons players that is! Because you are a supporter, right?

OK top to bottom
Gaz
JDB
LAM
Friz
Nighty
Vaughan
Packer
Hopefully Host
Sims
Joel Thompson
Mann
Maybe add Lawrie as well.
Leilua does have genetic blessings but let's not allude to the fact he is lazy. He is.
I would even name Dufty but not at FB. He looks more suited to wing.

Duffy reminds me of a young Ben Hornby playing in the junior teams.
His running style, his stepping style, his high ball catches.

Does anyone else see the resemblance ?

Isn't Hornby his mentor? I'm sure getsmarty posted something in Articles. I'm sure it stated he got dropped for attitude for a match.

No. Dufty looks better than Hornby to me. Dufty looks faster, more evasive, a better step, better ball playing skills and he will score more tries than Hornby.

I see what you're saying, and you're right.. Defensively he was caught out a couple of times, but I completely disagree with this idea that he needs to develop further by playing reserve grade with cameo first grade appearances.
Matty isn't going to get the true pace of the game playing in reserves, he will only get that with experience in the top grade. If he is to make it at the highest level, he needs that constant experience in first grade week in week out to get himself used to the flow and physicality. Giving him a game every now and again then throwing him back to reserves every other week is going to shatter his confidence and will cause him to stagnate. It's too sparse, he needs continuity.

Agree tom
Definitely needs time.
We need to not complain to much if he make a mistake.
This is a perfect time to blood him in first grade.
As we play knights then rabbits and titans.
So hopefully he plays solidly and continues to grow.

Chicken or the egg right?

Whether Dufty opened it up for our forwards or the other way around is moot. Point is, you need both to be successful. No point having a great forward pack if you have no speed in the backs to take advantage.

As I keep saying, we scored 50 for the first time in 10 years. We'd been struggling to get any more than 2 tries in recent weeks. The only conceivable difference in the Manly game was that we finally had an attacking threat from FB, something opposition defences haven't seen since Darbs played for us.
The kids played one game and your discussing whether he's the best fullback you've ever seen .boy talk about premature .get serious

Again I disagree.

His touches and high involvement in the first 10-15 mins put Manly on notice that we had a genuine speedster with footwork from FB. I'm guessing they were expecting Nighty to start at FB so they didn't expect this. This had 2 effects:

1. Manly had to spread wider to cover him, opening up our middle (unlike previous rounds where our forwards were facing compressed defences). Vaughan, Ah Mau and Sims had a field day punching up the middle like our early rounds.

2. Lafai and Widdop had acres of room unlike previous rounds. This is because the defence had to watch Dufty sweeping from the back and couldn't jam in (when we have Duges or Nighty there).

End of the day, having a FB with those attributes asked questions from the defence we haven't asked in a very long time.

50 points was the result.

You read the game one way, I read it differently. The big difference between this game and other recent games was the forwards were running straighter, harder and dominating. This opened it up out wide, I think Dufty played well but was not in position in defence on a number of occasions and his inclusion was not the reason they won.
Did he contribute to a renewed Dragons TEAM? yes he did.
Does he show a heap of promise? yes he does.
Do I think he is the best fullback I have ever seen? At this stage nowhere near it. Will he become the best fullback I have ever seen? Possibly if he can make the improvements needed.[/QUOTE]

Of course Dufty needs to improve in a few facets of his game thats without saying being only 22 and his first game in first grade.

The fact is that he will offer something a little different like a half decent passing game and some one who can chime into an attacking movement and not look like its completely foreign to them.

Yes he will make mistakes but thats the learning curve that he is on now.

I want him to be a good solid first grade player he doesn't have to be a superstar.

I had Greg Inglis at fullback in my best team of all time in his first year in first grade. But not after 1 game. Slater probably surpassed him, but if Inglis had been playing fullback in his younger days, when he was slimmer and more agile, maybe I would still have him as the best fullback I had seen. I do have Inglis at center my best team of all time. The other centre is out of Mark Gasnier and O'Conner. Kenny is 5/8 and halfback is a toss up between Sterling, Johns and Thurston.

In my opinion, Brian Johnson is the best fullback that Saints have had in the last 37 years.

Right now I would rate the best fullbacks in the game as

1 Slater
2 Tedesco
3 Tom Trbojivic
