As reported in the Daily Tele, Fox Sports and Smh this morning Dugan on the cusp of joining the Dragons and Carney in deep discussions.. Great news IMO and both world class players.. Thinking about it now it would be very prudent of Dragons mgt to keep some senior heads on board for 1 more year to see these guys thru..Matt Cooper has now a major role to play in mentoring both these guys..
I'm pretty excited with a back 3 of
Dugan
Morris
Nightingale
And a halves combination of Soward/Carney

Ps: great to see 6 Saints players in the SMH team of the week!!
How times are changing and all this coming up against a tigers team without Marshall!!!

Carney is not world class, he goes missing in the big games...
Plus IMO signing Dugan would mean letting Beale leave when his contract expires. Beale chose the Dragons because we promised him the opportunity to play fullback. now less than 5 weeks into his chance we are talking about signing a better fullback.
Sure Beale is injured at the moment, but next season he wouldnt be happy with Dugan at the back..

I have mixed feelings on carney.yes he goes missing in big games but at least he can get a team there. There is no doubting his talents. As for dugan beales injury as well as cummins' lack of fitness & experience opens the door for him.I know it is unfortunate for beale but history shows that injuries do present opportunities for other players & besides beale would certainly be able to slot straight in at centre. He has had knee problems before so who is to say he won't be another style?

If a better option comes along you have to take it. Beale is coming off his 3rd knee reconstruction and im sure he would understand if the dragons explored other options.

If (big IF) Dugan can come here and shake off his demons and play star quality football then I am sorry Beale will have to put his big boy pants on and suck it up...

Again that is a big IF...

yeah because Dugan is always injury free...
plus his asking price would now be DOUBLE what we paid for Beale, probably more than double actually...

paying overs for a player always injured... how is that a better option?

Beale also stated he'd be happy for Dugan to come in no matter where he played so while he's out we've still got a season to get thru and there are no guarantees that Beale will mak it back so as much as I like Beale and didn't want to burn him for the sake of dugan that was before he did his knee and life goes on unfortunately bring on carney and Dugan I say!

ohhh, I've been waiting with bated breath to learn how/if negotiations with Dugan are progressing. He was my neighbour when i lived in Canberra. Many rowdy bbqs, and one time alot of near naked raiders players in the townhouse complex pool ...but I never noticed him up on the roof. And they did come back to clean up all that green body paint poolside - yuk. Harmless fun really. But the 'up yours' photo isn't.

Agree, Dragons have a number of excellent mentors - if he really wants to improve.

My first choice is a fit Beale still at fullback. And whilst i feel so much for the guy (the injury on the weekend is wretched luck) my attitude to someone like Dugan is that he really is a natural talet, you just don't let great opportunities like that go by. (again on the premise that he wants to improve as a person). Talent like that in the NRL is scarce. What about Dugan as a centre ? ...longer term i mean.

Thoughts?

On Carney, strangely, I never seem to notice him on the field when i watch the games he plays in. That's another way of saying he is over-rated. But... A Soward / Carney halves combo - now that sounds tantalising and potent.

As far as Beale goes, I am not that much of a fan. Sure he hasn't done anything wrong, but he hasn't done anything that would make me want him over Dugan.

If we could get a hold of Carney, I would be very happy. I have hoped the dragons would switch Soward to 7 for quite some time. I think that extra responsibility could make Soward's game really fire.

I'm in two minds over Carney & Dugan. They are both good players but together may bring a bad culture to our mighty club, they are both party animals and good luck to them as I would probably do the same thing. They could bring down other players with them. We shall see if they come anyway.

I doubt Saints will have both Soward and Carney. Both similar players. Carney does go missing in big games but has more consistency in his game than Soward and more importantly takes on the line as well as kicks.

Dugan - Carney - Rein.....The makings of a great spine. But unfortunately Dugan and Carney are injury prone delux. Big gamble but it will pay off if they remain injury free that is for sure.

Sam Williams. Mateo. Aubusson. Joel Thompson.

Carney & Dugna are high risk, high reward types.

I do think that if Carney did sign, that Soward should stay on as the half back. Jeff Robson is a good foil for Carney. Soward can direct for 7. Carney could just do whatever goes through his very small mind then.
