Sorry but thats ridiculous.

So if Dugan wants a million you honestly think the club should just hand it over.

Millward is doing what he is paid to do and that is balance out the squad if Josh wants to play the game Rein did he may find himself left out in the cold.

If he truly wants to stay he will take less to do so hell what some players are getting compared to say Widdop as an instance is mind blowing.

Ther team comes first not just an individual player.
No Coast Dragons, I don't think we should pay anything he asks, and I clearly said sign him up or let him go.

i just think it's embarrassing for all involved and disheartening for fans.

Just saying sort it out either way and stop the bullshit with the scum media vultures.

Well said by Duges.
He wants to stay.
He's has been over the last few years and still remains our best back.
Give him what it takes and stop the bullshit Millward. Embarrassing for Duges and our club.
FFS sign him up,
Just sort it out or let him go, FFS.
I wrote about this 7 weeks ago that it will be an issue - why should he play full back when he's being signed as a centre!! Now he's even quoting the obvious!! The only way out here is that Dragons pay him what he's asking or risk losing him to Gold Coast or Bulldogs

He would definitely be my next preference if Duges decides to move on.

First preference is that Millward pulls his head out of his ass and pays Dugan what he's worth.
I would take Mitchell in a heart beat but the little prick also wants fullback money as quoted in an interview today

Dugans contract is taking way to long. An interview with the Daily Telegraph states that he is not looking at playing overseas.
The issue needs to be sorted one way or the other.
Saints have an offer on the table and now is the time to put a time limit on it, say 10 days.
There are other players that need to have their contracts sorted.
If we wait any longer those players could be signed by other clubs.
I hope that Dugan does get a new contract, but let's do it now and get on with things

Josh Dugan frustrated by St George Illawarra’s refusal to offer him a fullback contract

A FRUSTRATED Josh Dugan cannot understand why St George Illawarra continue to undervalue him as he prepares to play his seventh Test for Australia.

On the same day fellow star fullback James Tedesco signed a four-year deal with the Sydney Roosters, Dugan told The Daily Telegraph he was unsure what more he could do to prove to his own club he deserved to be paid as a fullback, not as a centre.

Dugan has baulked at a three-year offer from the Dragons, but deep down knows the difference between the two positions in terms of money could be up to $300,000 a season.

While he will play at right centre for Australia in the Anzac Test against New Zealand, Dugan and Dragons coach Paul McGregor agree he’s best used in the No. 1 for his club.

Dugan also has no idea who the Dragons intended to play at fullback next year if they shifted him to the centres.

“That’s where I’m lost as well,’’ Dugan said. “I think the they’ve got plans for some of the younger guys coming through.

“But when I was coming through as an 18 and 19-year-old, your body is just not ready for it, and as a fullback you need to be (battle) hardened. It’s a tough position for a kid.

“I’ve been picked for Australia, and hopefully I’m picked for the Origin side in a few weeks time. There’s no reason why they (the Dragons) should have any doubts about how well I’m performing.

“I feel like I’ve proven myself at all levels, and I guess the most disappointing thing for me is the Dragons don’t see that.’’

The Wests Tigers and Bulldogs both need a fullback, but Dugan’s first preference is the Red V. He wants to recommit long-term, just as he did for four years in 2013. He won’t accept the centre money and then be expected to play fullback.

“The club recruitment see me as a long-term centre, and I don’t agree with that,’’ Dugan said.

“I’m not being greedy, I’m going for what I feel I’m worth as a world-class player. The club has offered me a three-year deal, but as a centre.

“I’ve played my whole career at fullback, I feel like I am one of the better fullbacks in the comp, and I feel I bring a lot to the table at fullback.

“That’s not to say I don’t bring anything to the table as a centre, but the way I see the Dragons’ structure at the moment, I fit right in at fullback.

“I’m playing some good footy, and I feel I’ve played good footy at fullback the last few years now. It’s annoying having to explain why I should be playing there when the club has hopefully seen what I have done over the years for them at fullback.

“We have a roster I’ve been a part of the last three or four years, we’ve been building and getting to point we’re at, so I’d hate to leave when we’re just starting to click into gear.’’

Dugan cannot wait to combine with his good mate Blake Ferguson on the Kangaroos’ right side, and was also proud of Dragons prop Russell Packer who will play for the Kiwis.

“I’ve said it 100 times, but sometimes it takes a kick up the bum to realise what you have and don’t want to lose, and ‘Rusty’ is another example of that,’’ Dugan said.

“He’s turned his life around, and I think he’s studying his second degree. To run out for his country is massive for him and his family.’’

As for teaming up with Ferguson, Dugan said it helped being so close off the field, and playing outside the classy Cooper Cronk and Matt Gillett.

“It works for the Australian side, and hopefully we can keep it together for the Origin side,’’ Dugan said of his right-side combination with Ferguson.

Dugan definitely sounds frustrated there and I can understand why, I really hope that both he and the club can find a middle ground and re-sign him as he is a vital part of the team and the way we play...a power game and like he said things are just starting to click now so I hope we keep Dugan and on happy terms for both player and club....if we can sign Dugan, Packer, Lafai and Mann I'm confident that a premiership is attainable...

These quotes seriously disappoint me. Come on Duges, honestly. You do not get to dictate terms. Yes you are a great player and yes I get you are frustrated, but mate, you are not worth 1 mil a season even at fullback. You will play wherever the club and coach tells you to play, whether that is on the bench, in the front row, at centre, fullback, then so be it.
He is a pivotal part of our squad and I hope we retain him, but this sort of talk is what causes rifts between club and player and shows instability. He needs to remain professional and not let his emotions get the better of him.

Who's Millward to decide where the player should play anyway.

In any case if Dugan leaves what about Latrell Mitchell from Rooster's since Tedesco has pushed him out of fullback.
I am on the same page as you here. I was just thinking that we should attempt to entice Mitchell to play for us, even try to get him next year. Mitchell can say that signing Tedesco means now that he can not play fullback, which in turn limits his chances of getting a higher contract. I would rather we signed Mitchell than Dugan to play fullback for us. I think Mitchell has a very bright future.

Mitchell is just about to turn 20 and can play with centre and fullback. He is being touted as a future star in the making.

You say that Dugan is not worth 1 mil a season as a fullback. I agree.

He's not asking for anything crazy, he's asking for money he should be getting, why should he settle for centre money when he's not playing centre?

I will also add that no other NRL clubs are interested in signing Dugan to play fullback for 1 mil a season. Dugan is currently on overs and now he expects us to continue to pay him overs again. Dugan wants top fullback money, but myself and all the other NRL clubs don't think he is worth top fullback money.

I say let Dugan go and sign Mitchell instead.

Just sign the contract 800.000 tedesco signed for 800.000 fullback money no fullback is worth a million. Since when is a fullback contract worth a million.

Tedesco will be on 1 mil plus a season. He is only put down as 700K as part of Easts salary cap. Don't believe for a minute that Tedesco signed for less than he would have got from Canterbury. Tedesco is also worth 1 mil a season. Dugan is not worth 1 mil a season.

If one, is one of the best fullbacks in the game, then they are worth more than any centre. That same applies to halfbacks and 5/8s. Top halves and fullbacks probably became worth one mil as season, in the last 12 months.

How much do you think that we should be paying Dugan and why are there no other NRL clubs who are willing to pay him the money that he is asking? If anything Dugan should re sign with us for less than he can get at other clubs.

Dragons have a lot of excess baggage to clear (Mathews, KFL, Marketo, Masoe, Glymin, Hutchinson, Mcrone, etc.. ) between them there is $1.2M min worth of wages that will hit our bottom line .. Consider the fact that the salary cap will be increased by a $1m next year to $9.3M and w the departure of Marshall, Creagh, Rein, Farrell last year we gained an additional $1.3m in salary cap space of which only $500k and $300k went out to Vaughan and Mcdonald respectively .. So w the advent of around $500k under the cap this year plus the shedding of say $1.2M worth of talent this year plus the increase of $1m in salary cap there should be $2.7M worth of cap space plus TPAs to cover
Hunt $1M
DUGAN $850k
MANN $200k
Packer $450k
Lafai $250k

The above talent by my calculations will sit around $2.75M meaning we will need around $50k in TPA to cover..plus whatever we hs to shell out to cover Widdops additional wages.

Obviously the above is guesswork but it does give u an idea of where we could be at w salary cap management ..
DUGAN $850k
MANN $200k
Packer $450k
Lafai $250k

Respectfully, these guys are already being paid within our cap space so only the portion of increased pay would come off the 2.75M . Also need to deduct McInnes $''s as well. Leaves more $$s than you quoted. Hutchison (no 'n' in the middle of his name people) will be kept and I believe they'll keep McCrone too. Cheers
