ROBBIE Farah’s contract saga with Wests Tigers has taken another bizarre development with the battling club now deciding to deny the NSW Origin hooker a release.
Farah’s management emailed the Tigers on Friday night requesting an immediate release from the joint venture club
With six clubs lined-up to sign Farah, the Tigers have attempted to block Farah’s departure at the 11th hour after a last-minute backflip from the struggling club.
In September Tigers coach Jason Taylor called Farah to an emergency meeting and informed the Blues Origin regular his services were no longer required.
Farah’s contract runs until the end of 2017 and is listed as earning him $2.1 million over the course of the next two seasons.
The bizarre turn of events completely flies in the face of what the Tigers told Farah in September, which was his services were no longer required.
The club legend has since done a magnificent job maintaining his dignity while the Tigers have struggled to maintain control of the situation.
The latest development comes as rookie halves Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses are considering there futures.
Gun fullback James Tedesco is also off-contract in 2017 with the worst case scenario for the Tigers being all players walk away from the club.
Kiwi Test forward Martin Tapau also demanded an immediate release after issues with the club. The power forward had one year remaining on his contract.
The Tigers have just issued a media release confirming that Farah’s management have approached the club seeking a formal release that would see him relieved from the final two years of his contract.
The club stated that they will work with his management to reach terms that satisfy both the club and Farah’s needs, until that time he will continue training as a part of the team.
No further comment will be made by the club at this time.Earlier this week Tigers coach Jason Taylor was confident Farah would stay with the club despite the former captain being given permission to look elsewhere in August and was reportedly told he would play reserve grade if he stayed at the club.
“Robbie’s decided that he is going to remain with the club and I’m comfortable with that and we move forward,” Taylor told radio 2UE’s Sports Today program.
“We’ve been working pretty closely over the past couple of weeks. A lot has been said in the past but the point is Robbie will stay on board this year and I will coach Robbie well and we’ll work together well.
“Robbie and I have had some good discussions and we will continue to do that. I’m not saying that it’s sorted out 100 per cent. I’m saying that it’s sorted out 75, 80 per cent and we’ll keep working together.”
Farah’s position in the team was brought into further question in October when he stood down as the club’s captain, while the Tigers also signed fellow 80-minute hooker Matt Ballin from Manly.
