It's an awkward one. Due to coaching bumbling they probably aren't sure yet to offer him fullback or centre dollars. So they may have conveniently picked a dollar amount in between. While he is a representative player, he's not a representative fullback.

I think regardless he's become a key asset to the heart and soul of the team. You can never question his effort. So, while his ball playing ability may not enhance the rest of the team, his mere presence and guts on the field do.

Hope they can find a way to keep him without further screwing up the broader cap strategy.

I'm always interested in this talk of the spine and the money they should earn compared to others.
Jarrod Crocker what is he worth to Canberra supposedly less than spine money?
All the power houses playing in the 13 jumper for various clubs are they on less than spine money?
GI if he plays centre whats' he worth?
Dylan Walker at Manly what's he worth?
Lots of key players at different clubs are going to get big $$$$ regardless of not playing in a jersey nominated as "spine".
You pay the player on his performance and what he brings to your club and that shouldn't necessarily be restrictive due to the number on your back.
In relation to Dugan he is worth plenty to us and you will regret it when he isn't in the big red v.

You're right. It can't be a hard and fast rule. What you're seeing happening now is the elite players aren't being flexible where they play. The old adage "what's best for the team" is no longer in play. Inglis came out today saying he has 'told' management he wants fullback. You wonder how much this comes down to $ value on the position. Matt Scott will demand to play half back next!

He's 26, still has many good years. Like I've said before when he's on the paddock we play better, it's that simple. The team lifts and he is a leader. Regardless where he plays centre, fullback - he is SPINE.
Whatever we're paying him now is the very least he deserves and commands.
Definite keeper, should be signed up ASAP as co Captain.

Josh Dugan unhappy with Dragons contract offer: report

ST GEORGE Illawarra star Josh Dugan is reportedly unhappy with a Dragons pay offer and is set to shop around for another NRL club or even switch to rugby union in France.

According to the Nine Network, Dugan — off contract at the end of the 2017 season — is disillusioned and disappointed with the Dragons’ offer of around $100,000 less per year.

The club have reportedly told the Australian and NSW State of Origin representative to find out his worth on the open market.

On Friday night, Nine said Dugan had instructed his manager to find out what he would be worth in French rugby.

It is not known if the reduced Dragons offer to Dugan is linked with the multi- million dollar acquisition of Brisbane and Queensland halfback Ben Hunt from next year.

I like Dugan.
But what is he worth?
I think what we are offering is near the top offer he will get in the NRL.
If he can get more for French Rugby and he wants to go not much you can do.
