I hate the media who fuel this absolute overhype of this bloke. Articles like he is a superstar because he runs 100m in a game and makes 16 tackles...thats average yet they hype it up. Then some kiwi Raa raa tells you he is only good because he played rugby. HES NOT EVEN THAT GOOD.There are probably 50 blokes turning out better stats than this bloke but ALL the attention goes on him.
It's certainly not an authoritative statistical tool, but SBW is so far the 16th best player in the comp in NRL Dreamteam. If you don't know, Dreamteam is a game where scores are allocated to players based on a purely statistical formula.
The only backrowers ahead of him are Gallen, Watmough, Parker and Fensom. You may notice they are all workhorse, middle of the ruck type players. Statistically SBW is the best edge forward in the comp according to this particular tool.
Of course, I don't even like to use stats as a measure of a player's worth as they are very limited when it comes to assessing rugby league. Most of SBW's best work is to do with creating space for other players by drawing in defenders (whether by actual good play or simply by reputation as a decoy runner).
So despite being a player whose best work doesn't show on the stats sheet, and despite the fact that imo the Roosters could be using him way more than they are, he is statistically the best edge forward in the comp.
Food for thought :sarcasm:
