DYKES TO MANLY?
17 September 2005
Last night Channel 10s Sports Tonight program reported that Dykes had approached the Sharks for a release and was bound for Manly whilst the Sydney Morning Herald speculates that Dykes will end up with the struggling South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The Daily Telegraph confirms the news that Dykes has sought a release but does not speculate on where he may end up.
Dykes is managed by George Mimis who recently negotiated a protracted deal to ensure Melbourne Storm half back Matt Orford would play with Manly next year.
He has had an unhappy few years since originally leaving the Sharks in 2002 and joining the Parramatta Eels. He struggled with injuries during his time there and returned to Cronulla this year in an attempt to resurrect his career. He enjoyed moderate success during the 2005 season.
He would be a welcome addition to the Manly ranks after the Sea Eagles were forced to play a number of their back rowers in the number 6 jumper at the end of this season.
Rumours of Manlys interest in Dykes further fuel speculation that the club is desperate to offload current captain, erratic half back Michael Monaghan. Monaghan was retained on a large contract on the insistence of club owner Max Delmege.
Following a commitment by Delmege to end his meddling in football operations, Manly has recently renewed attempts to have another club take over his contract.
