socially tone deaf - Southern cross has racial undertones with nationalists group using it
Firstly anybody that thinks the Southern Cross is racist or has racial undertones is a f**king moron that needs to grow the f**k up.

Also the logic you are using is embarrassing. It's so broad and reductive that you could legitimately use it to argue that Nike and Subaru have racial undertones because nationalists wear Nikes and drive Subarus, honestly it's utterly f**king ridiculous.

Secondly, if we were measuring which is more likely to be offensive to people don't you think a German Ace pilot from WWI that killed dozens of people is maybe, just maybe, a little more offensive than a constellation!?

Personally I don't find either offensive, but that is because I'm not a child.

An inner city team representing the south including Ipswich & Logan is like putting a team in homebush & calling it gws. Outer areas of Brisbane should get their own team

Who's suggesting that the East Tigers will represent Ipswich and Logan?

They seem to only be interested in everything south of the river in Brisbane to me.

does the southern cross name, appeal to sponsors, fans, children ? i dont thinks so, silly name , get real please
Does the Barons name appeal to people?

What about Titans or Roosters, they've both got a fan a piece so apparently not, yet they have kept their names.

In reality it depends on the market you are selling it to, and how you sell it, and honestly as a person that has a bit of experience in marketing and advertising, I'd much prefer trying to sell the Bombers brand with it's connection to Charles Kingsford Smith and all it's historic and patriotic themes to Queenslanders than trying to sell a team named after the Red Baron to them.

However if we swap markets and I'm trying to sell the club to basically anywhere other than Brisbane/SEQ, then I wouldn't suggest either.

Also, I never suggested that they should call the team the Southern Cross. I only said that calling them the Southern Cross (i.e. naming them after CKS's plane) would be an interesting way that they could play up the Charles Kingsford Smith theme in their brand.

Like it or not the southern cross is associated with racism going back to cronulla riots. As incompetent as NRL regime is there's zero chance they'd allow that name. From a business perspective this brand would alienate a lot of potential fans from multicultural areas like logan. The fact you're ignorant of this shows how out of touch you are.

So many of the nicknames were organic...Rabbitohs, Roosters, Bears (a supermarket sponsor!!!), Tigers, Bluebags.

Probably not able to be done in this day and age but start as Brisbane Utd and if a nickname sticks...let it grow.

Pretty sure it goes back a lot further than the Cronulla riots.... and even with that, you could claim a lot of iconography as racist just because a bunch of buffoons used it to represent their cause. It’s like saying the bulldogs logo is a symbol for rape, inappropriate behaviour and violence.

If we keep highlighting icons, inanimate objects and flags as being racist because of the actions of a small group of morons then pretty soon we’ll have nothing left.

Or if you want to do something really different and interesting call them something the like the South Brisbane Southern Cross (or just Cross), i.e. keep the Charles Kingsford Smith logo and name the team for his plane the Southern Cross.

That is weird. I like it. Definitely unique

They could also go with Brisbane Smiths or Brisbane Kings

socially tone deaf - Southern cross has racial undertones with nationalists group using it

Pfft, everything has been used for racisim somewhere....

Im sure we could find racist groups that call themselves Knights, dragons and Warriors.
Cowboys killed Indians (who werent even meant to be called Indians)
Black Panthers?
And dont even start on animal cruelty (Rabbitohs, Broncos, etc...)

Racist groups dont own the Southern Cross

Not bad, its very american, but not bad
Better than the Southern Cross idea,
Btw i had my ignore member setting on, which solves that mystery.
I had no idea that was a pic of Charles Kingsford Smith on he bombers logo, maybe barons wont work, but even if it is him, St George Dragons are the perfect example of a branding turning on it head, they started as St.George Dragon Slayers, which slowly over time turned into the now Stgeorge llawarra Dragons, the club started as the slayers of dragons, now they are only known as dragons.

thats not right , what u say about bulldogs , stop it
I know it’s not true, I was using it as an example of how saying the southern cross is a symbol of racism is a ridiculous claim just because a few people used a common Australian icon for a negative purpose.

We can't call them the Patriots!

Nationalists often refer to themselves as patriots.

Seriously though, Brisbane Patriots kind of nails it for this group!!!

It fixes a stack of problems (it drops the BB while keeping the plosives, it drops the VFL link, probably matches the badge better and doesnt feel terroristy)
