Upon announcement of the NYC TOTY, I saw the teams from the 6 years previous. We have 1 representative in TOTY this year (Tepai) and 1 in 2008 (T-Rex), with NO ONE in 2009-2013.
Am I the only one concerned with this? I haven't been following the NYC scene for very long, but to the outsider, it looks like our juniors/"acadamy" is not working, or we are letting a lot of junior talent leave our ranks.
The "academy" didn't start until 2011 when Pete Nolan arrived, in the first year or so he had to bring in a lot of players for the 20's as we didn't have many players that were worth a starting spot and those we brought in weren't much better. In 2012 to combat the low rate of 19 year olds coming through to the NYC we had to bring up: Frazer Masinamua, Pauli Pauli, Kelepi Tanginoa, Kaysa Pritchard, Corey Makelim, and a few others so we could be competitive. Last year was the final year of well below average performances for our Under 20's team. In just 3 years we've created a stable environment for our SG Ball and HM players to move up in the Parramatta system, it was easier to do it in our team because of our strong our local juniors are so the main thing Nolan had to do was identify talent that wasn't in our district reps (Ryan Matterson) and then sign those who were the best of our district rep players.
If Moeroa had been coming through between the years of 2007-2009 and had been 18 at that stage he'd be playing for a different club or code imo.
