Does the Holden Cup still have a game broadcast each week on Foxtel? If so which one?

This week it was the Panthers vs Sharks. It's usually the two teams that play at 5:30 that have their NYC team broadcast but it seems that every time we play at 5:30 there's a team that happens to have their NRL game on at 3pm so their NYC plays at 10:40.

We talk about NYC 'stars', but here is the current Australian team, and the age each member was in the year he made his NRL debut and also the year he played his first full season:

Slater 20
Boyd 19
Inglis 18
Morris 21
Morris 20
Thurston 19 (but only played 7 games)
Cronk 21 (but only played 13 games)
Scott 19 (but only played 1 game, and only played 3 the next year)
Smith 19 (but only played 2 games)
Tamou 21 (but only played 12 games)
Bird 18 (but only played 9 games)
Gillett 22
Gallen 20 (but only played 2 games)
Cherry-Evans 22
Cordner 19 (but only played 7 games)
Myles 20
Parker 19 (but only played 13 games)

What does this all mean? Not necessarily anything. But I do find it interesting that most of these guys made their NRL debuts while still eligible for NYC (or its equivalent) and only Gillett and DCE played a whole season of reserve grade in the year they turned 21.

Obviously these guys are theoretically among the best players in the game. I'm sure a broader sample of NRL players would turn up a much later bloom, on average.

As usual I don't really have a point. I'm just trying to generate discussion. I didn't know most of those ages until I looked them up for that post, though I suspected most of them would have debuted before the age of 21.

Clicky

Layoun gets the nod ahead of French at fullback. Otherwise it looks to be the same team that conquered the Bunnies in week one of the finals.

Tyrone May is a real danger man for Penrith but their usual captain and powerhouse in the front row, Oliver Clark.

Good fortune for Parra on that front but it will still be a tough game. Penrith knocked our boys over in Rd.1 of the season in what would turn out to be our only defeat in the regulation season.

I would love to get out there but I might be working so I won't know if I can make it until later this week.

I find interesting that halves seem to develop later or in less structured environments like Q Cup and NSW Cup.

Of our current squad:
Hayne, Hoppa, Tonga, Norman, Sandow, Pauli all debuted before the year they turned 21. Obviously add Kelepi and Kaysa also who have played and still in NYC.

I don't think an early debut guarantees success. Jordan Rankin comes to mind as he debuted at 16 but never kicked on. Although seems almost a prerequisite to further rep honours to debut early outside the halves.

I think French may be injured, because as you can see in the highlights from week 1 Layoun scores after Vidal put a grubber through.
