why is the eels junior base always talked up?

yet u20 is so useless

should of made a play for John Ackland..

Because we have an enormous notional catchment area.....we haven't been so great at identifying which ones to keep as they get older....but are getting better in this respect (the U20s comp results are not the issue.....I don't care if we come last in that every year if we are seeing a good number of first graders developed and kept).

I've been told that parra will have several under age kids in the HM Mathews squad and a few in SG ball squad to cater the development of 2 very talented age groups in the 15s and 16s, I was actually told early in the year that club had some of the best 14 and 15 year olds in the land at the club as part of their junior development squad and are building to prepare them for NYC on2 to 3 years time, I think delboy who's close to the scene there in junior footy would confirm that.
Are these juniors names Ray Price, Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny & Steve Ella???

Talented Eels prospect named for New Zealand

Exciting Parramatta Eels future prospect Erin Clark has played in the New Zealand Residents Under 16s side, which lost to the Queensland Junior Academy side at Toll Stadium, Whangarei. 16 year old Clark is also a surprise inclusion in the New Zealand Under 17s Merit side, where he will play a year up.

In 2013 the Auckland resident was part of the Akarana Falcons side that narrowly lost the New Zealand National Final of the Mark Graham Cup.

Erin has been on the Parramatta Eels’ radar as a talented halfback/five-eighth for several months, after being scouted and attending a training camp at the end of 2012.

“Erin came out of the camp and really impressed us - his attitude was great, he’s got a great work ethic and he’s got plenty of potential,” Craig Wilson from Parramatta Eels Player Development department said.

“Him being selected in the 17s side was a great reward for him based on his form throughout the 17s National Competition this year.”
“Being selected a year young reflects his talent and commitment, all the things we noticed from the start.”

Erin will finish his remaining school years in New Zealand before crossing the ditch to Parramatta where he will continue his development in our football system here.

Erin is from a famous sporting heritage in New Zealand; his mother Temepara Bailey (née George) played 89 tests with the NZ netball team, the Silver Ferns, including their 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medals.

Congratulations on your achievements Erin - we look forward to having you here with us in Blue and Gold!

Well, most blokes with outright girl's names end out being pretty tough (if they make it through primary school). I wonder if he has a sister named Trevor?

Here's the latest snippet from the NYC: http://instagram.com/p/hkjdR0kpjN/#

Supposedly a mix of NYC and SG Ball players. I only recognise six of them:

Back row (L-R): Latham, dunno, dunno, dunno, Tepu-Smith
Front row (L-R): Grant, dunno, Lussick, Mauala, dunno, dunno, Kamikamica

Back row (L-R): Latham, Matterson, Davis, dunno, Tepu-Smith
Front row (L-R): Grant, dunno, Lussick, Mauala, Aukofolau, Markus , Kamikamica

All NYC

So Davis is an outside back, Aloiai is an edge forward, Izzard and Markus are halves, and Lussick is a hooker, correct?

The NYC player profiles on the official site have been updated: http://www.parraeels.com.au/nycplayerprofiles

Interestingly no Nathan Davis, no Jeff Markus, no Lachlan Roe and no John Brady. Can anyone confirm these four?

Other factoids:

  • Two 18 year olds are listed (Fuimaono and Francis).
  • There are plenty of blokes turning 19.
  • Kenny Edwards' little brother is in the squad.
  • Only one monster (Paea Pua)
  • There are also seven NYC eligible players listed in the fulltime squad, and five or six of those are likely to play NYC through the year.
Likely NYC squad:

Aloiai (turns 19)
Anderson (turns 19)
Aukofolau (turns 19)
Baissari
Brady
Bush (turns 19)
Daoud
Davis (turns 19)
Dockar-Clay (turns 19)
Edwards (turns 19)
Folau
Francis (turns 18)
Fuimaono (turns 18)
Goodall
Grant
Green
Hafoka (turns 19)
Izzard (turns 19)
Kamikamica
Latham
Lavaka
Lussick (turns 19)
Makelim
Manuleleua
Markus (turns 19)
Matterson
Mauala
Moeroa (turns 19)
Muna (turns 19)
Newbigging
Pauli
Pua (turns 19)
Suli (turns 19)
Tepu-Smith (turns 19)
Windeatt

Plus Pritchard and Tanginoa, both of whom will probably stay in the fulltime squad.

They've even got big names - Eric Newbigging.....he's got to make it. And there's a bloke called Wayne too.....haven't seen many young blokes called Wayne for a while. And then there's Hopa Edwards, the love child of our former CEO and Mrs Hoppa

Gee Nathan Davis is a big too, especially for a back - 195cm/ 98kg and just turned 18.

Has anyone seen him play? What is his speed like? Is he an genuine speedster? If he is and with his size gee the kid could be a freak.

Davis is definitely one to keep an eye on.

I didn't catch any of his SG Ball efforts in 2013 but I did see him line up for Guildford in the Ron Massey Cup. He was extremely impressive in those games, showing some footballing nous to go with his massive frame.

As far as speed goes, he was able to keep Jerome MacKenzie at bay across ~80-90 metres (with Jerome giving away a small head start) when Guildford played Wenty. I'm not sure how explosive he is from a standing start but he certainly can chew up the metres once he gets a little bit of space.

Before our massive second tier recruitment drive I him pegged as a possible NSW Cup debutante for 2014 but the club may just let him develop in the NYC for a full season given how much depth we now possess.
