Their story is 2 1/2 years old. Still better than Tigers, Roosters, Canberra, Bulldogs, Souths, Manly.
Maybe you shouldn't bother to read what they say if it confuses you
Because you have to fund 50% of it yourselves and we have burned $20m in the last few years. Poor timing.

Also, the facilities need to be shared with the public. I expect that most clubs would prefer a private COE like Panthers if they can fund it themselves.

Duffman has already said that money isn’t really an issue and we’re now going to upgrade our current facility and then look to build a new one. I’d say the timing was bloody perfect. I have no doubt that if the club opened it up a few times a year to local school groups and sports clubs it would pass the “open to the public” criteria. I don’t think I’ll be able to just rock up to the Roosters’ facility and start spotting JWH.

This is more up to date. Don't believe it though you cant trust those TCT guys

https://thecumberlandthrow.com/2018...-next-strategic-challenge-for-the-eels-board/

This is what I'm talking about. In November 2016 they said we have "one of the best training facilities in the NRL" claiming it is the envy of the league. Complete bullshit.

But just 14 months later they are saying:

"It reminds me of my days at Northmead High School! Demountables are exactly what they look like – temporary housing. It’s a stopgap measure, not a plan for the future.

Unquestionably, the club have made the best use of the asset and the players regard it as their home. However it is small – so small in fact that when we picked up a player in January one year he was forced to change outside as there was just no room. There is no pool or spas and medical services are conducted offsite. The gym is adequate, there is a small wrestle room, a small meeting room, a kitchen/player lounge, a physio/massage room, and some offices/desks for the coaching staff. The football administration staff are currently housed in the old Masonic Club in Parramatta which is a less than ideal environment provided under a less than ideal commercial arrangement
."

Now I agree whole heartedly with the more recent post but it shows how full of shit they were with their post the year before.

I wouldn't mind working on my running mechanics

Well tbh, just like me, you probably have no idea what the "open to the public" criteria is

So why the hell didn’t we apply for this funding in December last year? If we’re so far behind, this was easy money to tap into. Appalling from the CEO and Board that they either didn’t bother applying or couldn’t write a successful funding application when these other clubs could.

https://sport.nsw.gov.au/aboutus/OOS/SIG/CentresExcellenceProgram

You would think that there is plenty of money to give away if the NSW Government is funding the building of training facilities that arent even in NSW.

The Heffron Centre
A community sporting facility incorporating the South Sydney Rabbitohs

768x300_Heffron-Centre.jpg

Randwick City Council is planning to build a new sporting facility in Maroubra's Heffron Park known as The Heffron Centre.

Planning for the centre is at an early stage.

The Centre is proposed to be located on Bunnerong Rd on the site of the existing indoor sports centre and gymnastics buildings. Both of these buildings are dated and Council has been planning for their upgrade as part of the Heffron Park Masterplan for many years.

Initial plans for the Heffron Centre are to provide:

  • A gymnastics centre
  • Indoor sports court suitable for basketball, volleyball, badminton, netball and futsal
  • A new home for the South Sydney Rabbitohs (initially proposed for Robey St), including their headquarters, training facilities and community outreach arm Souths Cares.
  • Public cafe
Randwick City Council has committed a maximum of $3M to contribute to the South Sydney Rabbitohs component of the estimated $32M project. The remaining funds are being contributed by the Rabbitohs and Federal Government. Further State Government is being sought by the Rabbitohs.

Extensive community consultation will take place once funding is finalised and the preliminary plans are produced.

Well actually, this quote from Stuart Ayres suggests it only needs to be made available to promising young athletes, which would be even more exclusive than my original suggestion. Hell, we could even take advantage of the increased access to talented kids.

“Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the development of these new centres will provide multi-purpose facilities that offer promising young athletes and high performance athletes with world-class training and development in their local area.”

I read that as saying the Rabbitohs will have their own section (the centre of excellence and back office), which will be co-located in this multi-use centre. They might even get away with the “open to the public” criteria by being housed in a community facility. Pretty clever if you ask me.

So they can’t change their opinions 12 or so months later?

Shouldn’t you be happy their current opinions align with yours or is there another underlying agenda against TCT?

You seem very against TCT who write and post for nil financial benefit for everyone to read and critique, rather then posting opinions on a forum?

In my opinion whether you agree with everything that is written, TCT is doing a great service by providing some inside info on how the eels operate. And considering how willing the eels are to help out, some bias can be expected!!

My previous job gave me an insight into the Heffron complex. The plans and where it was to be built have been changed a number of times. HappyMeel is actually pretty close with his view on being made available to the public. There is a deal in place with a local high school (there may be more than one) that will allow them to use some (very limited mind you) of the facilities (footy fields) at particular times.

Didnt TCT provide the wonderful info about running mechanics that we can all slam the AFL merkin over? .... without TCT we would have so much less grounds for death riding and scape goating ffs

Well there you go. We set up a barista training program for the Flegg players, open it up to the public for an hour on Thursdays between 10-11am and we kill a few birds with one stone and get half our centre paid for. Ridiculous we weren’t in the mix for this funding.

This quote from a media release on the Raiders Centre also sets a low bar for community access:

“Everyone from under 6's through to adults will have access to carnivals, clinics and training camps and elite game development opportunities - further benefitting the health and well-being of our regional communities”
https://www.raiders.com.au/news/201...ross-border-funding-for-centre-of-excellence/

All Clubs do this anyway so I’m confident the “open to the community” criteria wouldn’t have been a reason we wouldn’t have applied.

I spend a bit of time applying for government grants and there’s always a way of drafting your application to satisfy the criteria, whilst still getting what you want.

And without going back and reading their posts (as I couldn’t be f**ked), from memory they wrote about they were doing and why they were trying (or expected ) to achieve - they never analyse the end results (I could be wrong)
