Oh, they have all sorts of plans.

I'm on a 25,000 rupee a year low level plan. Basically I outsource drinking hard liquor alone and stern-faced in the dark, lying awake at night looking at that one shadow on the roof while stressing about the day, getting unnecessarily short with family and friends, and overreacting to everyday situations.

But you can go right up to tailored plans where you outsource moping, dithering, hand wringing, spending two hours sobbing in the shower for no specific reason, giving others the silent treatment, alcoholism, cocaine addiction, spending too much money as part of a mid-life crisis, flying off the handle and beating the snot out of your boss....there's all sorts!

You've sold me on the tailored plan you speak of......hopefully there is a referral program cause i would like to get you some kind of discount for the recommendation.

Dear Members,

Many of you will have been recently reading and hearing a lot about our Club’s contract negotiations with our Players.

We have 14 players off contract at the end of this 2019 season and, while it has long been our Club’s policy not to discuss contract negotiations publicly, please be assured that we are working diligently to do what is in the best interests of both our Players and our Club.

As a Club, we are obligated to respect the integrity of the negotiation process and this ensures that our Club and each Player, and their manager, can engage in “good faith” discussions. As a management team, our goal is to implement a disciplined, strategic Player recruitment and Salary Cap program.

All our Players are important to us and we expect that they are treated with utmost respect at all times regardless of the speculation that takes place during negotiations. We urge everyone to support and value every Eels Player who wears our Blue & Gold jersey and we look forward to seeing that continue on Sunday.

Rest assured that when we have a definitive outcome regarding Player contracts, we will update our Members accordingly.

Kind Regards,

Bernie Gurr.
Parramatta Eels CEO

Wasnt there a rumour that we have re signed Manu? I wonder what his deal is and who his manager is? Get on it Gronky. Manu was average at best last year. I wonder how he earned a contract before he played his first in 2019?

King's ransom: Gutherson maintains he's worth $650,000 a season

Clint Gutherson says he is worth at least $650,000 a season and that he had hoped to lock up a four-year deal with Parramatta before Christmas rather than let the very-public negotiations continue to dominate headlines.

The Eels skipper struggled for the first time on Thursday to hide his frustrations over his protracted negotiations out west, which has since forced him to dump social media because of some nasty comments from trolls, including some Parramatta fans.

The Eels, whose initial deal was less than $500,000 a season, have since upped it to about $650,000 over three seasons, but the player known as "the King" is keen for that extra year and the chance to "call somewhere home the next four years or more".

Manly have been linked to Gutherson, who started on the northern beaches and continues to live there.

It's understood the Sea Eagles would view him as a five-eighth to Daly Cherry-Evans or a centre, not his preferred No.1 role because of Tom Trbojevic.

While there has been a sustained campaign from some quarters to get Gutherson a new deal, it is worth noting Parramatta are coming off a wooden spoon, a loss to Newcastle last Sunday, and could easily drop games against St George Illawarra on Sunday at Bankwest Stadium, then Melbourne at Magic Round.

There's also a tough road trip to Townsville against the Cowboys with a fit Jason Taumalolo and Souths who await before Origin.

Another important issue that seems to have been overlooked in recent weeks is Gutherson's two ruptured ACLs.

Gutherson broke down in 2015 and then suffered a second ACL rupture in round 20 against the Wests Tigers back in 2017. He missed the opening couple of months of last season and thankfully had no issues since.

While Gutherson himself said he had no issues with his knee – and any club who did "it was their loss" – respected sports medico and NSW Origin team doctor Nathan Gibbs said the chances of a third rupture, or even injuring his good left knee, increased dramatically.

"If you look at a lot of the good players, Joey Johns had an ACL recon, James Tedesco has had one, lots of good players have had the one recon and come back and played well,'' Gibbs told the Herald.

"But when you have had two ACLs, it puts him in that next level when it comes to the risk of further injury.

"Two recons means there may be an inherent weakness in ligament strength for that individual. And one of the biggest issues with the ACL is amount of time out it takes to recover. You can't come back any sooner than six months.''

Gutherson said: "I don't think about it. I don't think [clubs] should. If they do it's their loss."

When the Herald asked Gutherson is he was worth $650,000 a season, he said: "Yes. I'm the captain of this club. I want to be here. I think I am, my manager thinks I am, clubs think I am. That's where I'll leave it.

"[Parramatta] haven't given me the final offer yet. I've stated I'm looking for a longer-term contract. I want to call somewhere home for the next four years or more, and that's what I'm looking for.

"You don't want it lingering. It's always in the headlines. I wanted it done before the season started, they slowed it down a bit and this is where we are now.''

Gutherson said there had not yet been any contact with Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler, and while there was always appeal to head home, "I just have to keep playing footy".

He continues to commute from the north side each day and has done for four years.

Asked what Warriewood had over Westmead, Gutherson said: "A beach.''

Several Eels players remain off contract, including Mitch Moses, while coach Brad Arthur is the only coach in the game without a contract beyond this year.

One of the most active and entertaining NRL players on social media, Gutherson has bunkered down as fans have turned on him.

"It's been pretty harsh the last two or three weeks, just people spraying you," Gutherson said.

"You only want to hear the opinions from the people close to you and who you love. They're the important ones. Nobody else has much of an influence."

If he’s happy with the $650k and just wants the extra year to close the deal, the club should just do it...sign, seal it and announce it Sunday

He sounded a bit peeved off when interviewed

I think 650k for 4 years is ok for a FB and captain
He would be in the next tier under only Tesdeco, Tommy T and RTS really, and they are million dollar players or close to it

He is 24yo, and the best years ahead

We would've made lowball offers to plenty of our off contract players over the off season. As soon as we got a feel for their attitude and fitness we would have made a move.

Give him a 4 year deal at 650k but the last one in our favour, if he’s still fit and playing well the extra year is a no brainer.

I’m assuming the insurance component is quite tricky but I’d give him 4 years but with clause that gives club right to cancel contract if he suffers same acl injury

I was under the impression the contract talks isn’t creating any distractions. Instead of talking how well the eels are going, all we hear is gutho’s, moses’ and BA’s contractual status. I wonder what part distractions played in Sunday’s loss?

The sooner a deal is struck the better.

Yeah, I watched the interviews with Moses, Fergy, Mannah, and Gutho yesterday and FMD, all the reporters wanted to talk about was contract status's. The channel 9 guy actually asked Mannah, Moses and Fergy what they thought about the FACT that Gutho met with Hasler the night before.... even though there was no meeting.

Sports Reporters are bottom feeders of the highest order.

So we’ll put sports reporters up there with player managers. I’m happy with that!

Seriously, if gutho is happy with 650/year and the sticking point is the actual duration (3 or 4 years) then why is the club being such merkins if that’s the case. If we’re happy to pay for 3, what’s a another year?

It seems like a day and an age since we last went drama free in an nrl season. Management really need to pull their heads in and make a call. Either BA’s in or out and go from there. The longer they delay a decision on BA, one can’t help but think he may not be in their plans going forward. And the longer it goes, the more they’ll jeopardise our season.

The club is finally being a bit ruthless and now merkins have a problem with that as well...

This is a much more preferable scenario to us spending like drunken sailors.

I also think the club playing hardball helps determine a player’s attitude and commitment.

If Gutho isn’t happy with what we have offered him then he should sign with Manly.
