How good does it feel to be back in the semis ? Win three games and you are in the big dance.

Arthur has done an amazing job, the bald useless merkin.

You’re sounding confident. Souths and roosters upped their game tonight, I’d love for us to make a statement tomorrow night. Fingers crossed

Souths came off second best with injuries. They're a good chance of facing Melbourne first up.

Parramatta prodigy Dylan Brown wants to re-sign with Parramatta
PARRAMATTA prodigy Dylan Brown has opened up on his desire to stay with the Eels long-term, saying he now owes it to the club to extend beyond 2020.

On the eve of a Friday Night Football blockbuster against Manly, Brown has given Blue & Gold Army members a huge boost by revealing his manager Gavin Orr has been urged to sort a new deal before November 1 — the day rival NRL clubs can start negotiating.

Back in March, and when responding to talk of a $3 million offer from the Warriors, the Eels No. 6 admitted he could be enticed into “going fishing” when his current deal was up.

Six months on however, and with Parramatta readying for a surprise NRL playoffs spot, the 18-year-old now says he is going nowhere.

similars

“I love Parramatta and what they’ve done for me,” Brown said. “So now I owe it to them, and myself, to stick around.

“My manager is probably talking with Parramatta right now.

“So hopefully … yeah, if I do get re-signed before November 1 that would be very good for me and my mindset.”

Currently, Brown earns the NRL minimum $105,000, which is still up on his 2018 development deal of $60,000.

Earlier this year, however, the five-eighth whose fan club includes the likes of Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler and Brett Kenny was given an idea of his earning potential when the Warriors offered the largest deal for any leaguie yet to start in first grade.

And while that contract was eventually pulled — given clubs are banned from approaching Brown until November 1 — the rookie playmaker suggested he and Orr had spoke about potentially waiting until 2020 to make his next move, given higher numbers would almost certainly become available.

But with Brown now looking to stay put, fellow Eels are predicting a bright future for their Next Big Thing, with backrower Manu Ma’u saying: “Dylan can be a future New Zealand halfback if he wants to play for the Kiwis.”

I would upgrade Dylan Browns contract for next season and offer him another year at the 400k mark. He has a nice short kicking game. Maybe he will develop but at present I am not convinced he is a better option than Salmon.

Loyalty bought for $700K a season. Fine but he had better play at the value of what he signs for. At the moment he is playing like a $105K rookie. If he doesn't improve real fast(by next season) we will be paying massive overs for him.

Gronk posted a couple of pages back - The Daily Telegraph can reveal:

● Brown is in discussions about a three- or four-year extension worth around $700,000 season;

Agree that paying for potential is a risk and I would be surprised that we'd do that. I rate the kid, but right now he offers little more than an average 6/7. At least we are not paying $1m like Penrith with Cleary or even worse Gold Coast with Ash Taylor.

True but wow how over the top if true to pay a kid that has shown very little so far, top dollar. Loyalty? The kid has none. If these figures are true, then I don't think we would have paid that much if the manager and client weren't demanding it.

He didn't need to go fishing, it seems as though the fish had no other choice then to throw itself scaled and onto the grill.

So the club has probably managed to both Drown and catch a Salmon... cool.

Yes $700k is a lot, however most halves are paid on potential (especially young promising ones). Really good ones are rare and as they are so important to a sides fortunes, most clubs pay overs for them.

Even the Roosters are guilty of it recently, Hastings / Nikorima.

Yes Drown hasn’t been brilliant (however he is very young / has been injured), but he has shown some fairly important attributes for a half:

- runs the ball a fair bit
- he is willing to run into the line and take a hit before passing. Pretty good sign this is
- is a good size for a half
- defends pretty good
- has shown a smart short kicking game
- has speed
- has that X factor, has come up with some special plays, yes not heaps but there has been some - like try against dragons
- seems fairly tough, has been targeted in defence but keeps on putting in. Keeps on running the ball etc
