I would expect them to honour their end of the deal, whatever that may be, instead of trying to weasle their way out of paying up on some BS technicality which is their MO in what seems to be the overwhelming majority of cases
'Whatever that may be' being the important qualifier. In my experience most people who bitch about insurance companies have completely unrealistic expectations about what 'honouring the deal' should entail because they are greedy, self-interested merkins.

And greed is something we would never associate with insurance companies.........

Yes and if Bevan French was forced into retirement due to a terrible injury then of course they should pay.

Huge difference though between a Bev injury and Steve Mattai expecting a insurance payout because his chronic shoulder and neck condition forces him into "early" retirement.

Its called the human condition.

...and, by the way I was actually pointing out that those that complain about insurance companies being greedy are actually greedy merkins themselves.

How is you saying "yeah, but insurance companies are greedy" actually adding to the debate mango boy!

Just playing the devils advocate here; if you had car full of rust and you were involved in a bingle. Would you expect the insurance company to restore it to new ?
Gronk, this isn't devil's advocating, it's being stupid. Did the rust cause you to have any accident? If the answer is no, I'd expect them to restore the car to the same point before the accident or compensate in like. Thus the is it pre-existing or new injury that caused the retirement? You're carport analogy is slightly better.

I also wouldn't be paying $10000s for the policy of a rusted car.
If I change my car insurer, there is a basic assumption that it is road worthy and there is an agreed method of valuing any payout, this then effects the policy cost.
If I'm paying $10000s for a policy, I'd want something a little more concrete.

Then they announce record profits year in year out. SMMFINGH
Until there's a huge motherf**king storm event and they have to pay out on water/hail/wind damage.. their profits take a hit and then lo and behold they declare "In light of recent weather events we need to increase our premiums and change the terms of some of our policies in order to continue to provide our customers the coverage they've come to expect" - which roughly translates to "Well f**k me if we didn't get stung when that storm blew a few roofs off houses the other week, all of a sudden we're not getting as much money for nothing. So we're upping our fees and changing the defintion of 'storm damage' to 'complete and utter devastation on a nuclear scale'.The result is that we will only be paying out on policies if your house is found >5 kilometers away from its original location after a 'storm'".... Merkins!

Which is what I was saying. You can't expect to profit from these policies. It does not cover old merkins who run around bone on bone, one knock away from retirement. The whole point about these insurances was a response to the Alex McKinnon accident. Certainly not to provide a retirement nest egg for old crocks.

Exactly the sort of response I would expect from someone who sells insurance for a living.

Yeah but your rusty car analogy still didn't fit
