The Parramatta Eels have extended coach Brad Arthur's contract for another season, keeping him at the helm until at least 2022.

The high-flying Eels have agreed terms on the deal with Arthur, who sits behind only Brian Smith as the club's longest-serving coach with a 50 per cent win ratio from 166 games in charge.

Arthur, who took over from Ricky Stuart as head coach in 2014, is on track to lead the club to a third finals series in four years. He still had another year on his deal, but club officials were quick to lock him down.

"I’m really pleased that the club has the confidence in me to continue to lead the team towards our goal of bringing success to our members and fans," Arthur said.

"Our playing group has evolved quite considerably over the last couple of years and they are determined to drive high standards to ensure we achieve our goals.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of leading this group and continuing to develop our emerging junior talent in an exciting period for our club, and I know that the blue and gold army will be behind us every step of the way."

Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said Arthur's relationship with the players was a key reason for both their recent success and the decision to extend his tenure.

"Brad and the playing group have built on the progress made in 2019 to deliver a strong start to the 2020 season but I know that they see this as only the platform from which to build on," Sarantinos said.

“Our retention and recruitment planning means that we have a strong squad that is locked in for an extended period and we believe Brad’s strong relationship with this playing group will be an important factor in achieving our goals as a club."

TheRam will be livid! He wouldn't have made an offer until after full-time on grand final day next year.
He’d have sacked him well before then. Mahoney doesn’t run. That’s clearly a sign BA will never win a premiership! Why didn’t we sign up Harry Grant? It’s so clear now that he’s the second coming of our lord and saviour. And on unders. Preferably on a contract that has club options every year. With no pay increase. The good leaders just get it done. Like the Roosters. I wish we were exactly like the Roosters. Why are you comparing our current record to that of the Roosters? You can’t do that

Interesting signing.

what’s the longest stint a coach has spent at one club without premiership glory?

Brian Smith would be close (10 years).
BA and Stuart are both in their 7th year without one.

EDIT: John Lang did 8 years at the Sharks without winning one and Royce Simmons did 7 years + 6 games at the Panthers.
