Fittler had years where he played like Dogshit in a strong team. He was voted by his peers as the most overrated players in the game one year. Yeah real immortal type stuff. He was a great player but not even close to immortal status. But of course he’s better than our former greats hey Pou who weren’t much chop……. But our modern players and the coach are the Bestest Evarrrrrrrrrr!!!

Didn't pou even even say in previous posts that he never saw our great players play or just caught them at the end of their careers?

Not sure, he's probably my age and i was 8 when we won in 86. So i might look at those greats with rose coloured glasses but i still remember watching a busted Bert playing lock in 93 and still easily our best player in a team of plodders that would give Pou a horn.

Lets explore that. Which years?

In the early years of his career many commentators and fans would criticise him all the time for not getting involved enough or missing in action way to often and then occasionally doing something magic and then going back to sleep. It wasn't until Gus started to work on him at the Roosters(not Penrith) and over a couple of years of mentoring and even publically stating that he needed to become more consistent if he wanted to reach his full potential. Which in the end he did, but there were a number of years that he was just the superstar player that was coasting half the time and had that I couldn't careless attitude. He had even spoken about it himself back then.

Kenny dominates for a decade and did everything in the game. Was never labelled overrated and even Wally Lewis said he was the best in his era. The fact that the 80’s era only has one immortal who is a questionable one at that (Meninga) demonstrates the disrespect that the game has for players of that era.

Unfortunately due to the lack of television coverage(only 3 games were on TV) and the lack of Parra spruikers in the media today with any influence, means that all the other and more recent players will get the lions share of the discussion.

Look what they did for Meninga. He has so many acolytes in the game(coaching the Maroons has done wonders for him) and in the media and he was in the media as well so was bum chumming with everyone and hey presto! You are now an immortal even over the better players in your own team.

Just trying to keep you idiots in reality world. No merkin is ever as good as footy fans think he is, nor is any merkin as bad. You f**ken deadshits have no middle ground.

Yeah I agree. I think Kenny is an average Immortal and Fitler an average Hall Of Famer.

If that was your question try asking it next time you peanut!

Overall? I’d say Fittler but Kenny at his best was better than Fittler at his. I’m sure you’ll think thats a cop out answer but I don’t think it’s a particularly good question.

Hard to compare different players across different eras and say definitively which one is better.

I think the only meaningful question to ask when assessing players for Immortal status is who if anyone was better then them up till that moment in time? And in Kenny's case where there are so many great players in similar positions and most importantly under the same rules that they played in. Different rules makes different for way different outcomes.

Well, I who saw Bozo, Kenny and Lewis all play at their best, can say Kenny was equal to the other two who are already Immortals. Many rate Kenny way better then Lewis too, who played most of his career in a second tier comp and a handful of rep games a season at best.

But like I said Kenny was equal to if not better then the other two current Immortals under the 5 metre rule. They both became Immortal for legitimate reasons for the most part, but Kenny isn't a Rooster or a Queenslander so his credentials have been handicapped to a certain extent.

But to then try and compare him to later great players under the 10 metre rule is folly and nonsensical. It would be like comparing Churchill to Slater or Raper to Price. I think most intelligent analysts would put both Slater and Price way in front of both the others if you were to break down the level of fitness, size and professionalism of the players in both eras and the players that they played against, but that would be a stupid way to assess it.

So in conclusion, I think that judges that had watched footy in the era of the 70's and 80's which Bozo, Lewis and Kenny all played the majority of their best footy, would say that Kenny was at least as good as the other two and Kenny actually out played Lewis every time he play in the same number against him.

Is Kenny of Immortal class? You fu*ken betcha!!!

I saw them play. I just watched them dispassionately until the early 90s when I realised I had no choice but to love this f**ken club.

Early in his f**ken career? By the time he reached the age Brett Kenny was on debut, Fittler had 30+ games, a grand final and an Origin win under his belt. He played three full seasons worth of games more than Kenny and was almost always the best player in his team.

Mate he was asleep in many if not most of those games and would awaken, do something decent to great, then go back to sleep. Were you even Rugby League back then? You sound like an import, Johnny come lately who knew nothing but Euro ball. He was notorious for his laziness. Now people are trying to rewrite history.

Stop it while you are behind. Maybe the game with the nets around the goal posts is more your speed.

Oh yeah like there has never been a lazy superstar picked in rep teams before?

Pull your head in you Tampon-Tunnel.

Ummmm Brandy was easily the best player in that Riff team, Geyer was immense in their run to the GF also. He played in the centres and played off the back of their hard work. Stevie Carter was probably more important lol.
