The Eels actually lead the NRL in offloads by a decent margin on the rest of the league – popping passes in a tackle to get an extra 10 metres down the field is nice but it’s better to split open a defence with quick footwork, attacking shapes and tackle busts (Parra are only ahead of the Dogs in that stat in 2023 – ouch).

i feel way too often our boys are standing in tackles taking an eternity to offload the ball and essentially slowing down the play the ball letting the opposition reset their line. Hopgood does this far too often.

Id rather less offloads and more fast play the balls tbh.

By running hard, by approaching the collision with a run first mentality. Some of our boys are looking to offload irrespective of what's happens in contact. Vs Penrith RCG and Greig just used their size to power through the line and Joe O used footwork in and behind the play the ball to great effect.

Also using shape and ball movement to isolate defenders. Outside backs who posses some power. A better kick chase on the back of Moses kicking game. We got torched plenty of time when we could have had teams pinned in their own ten.

Don't get me wrong, I love an offload. David Solomona was one of my favourite eels when I first started following the team. I just wish we where more selective with them.
