The Eels actually lead the NRL in offloads by a decent margin on the rest of the league – popping passes in a tackle to get an extra 10 metres down the field is nice but it’s better to split open a defence with quick footwork, attacking shapes and tackle busts (Parra are only ahead of the Dogs in that stat in 2023 – ouch).

We don't break a lot of tackles but we do still manage to isolate defenders with teamwork, meaning our tackle breaks are more likely to lead to line breaks. What needs to change - Defence

We can score points and have a pretty good team of scoring outside the 20. I Think our points scored per game is at its highest under BA.

Not one mention about our defence, which was the actual reason we did so poorly this season.

The author, Paul Suttor, has the word 'expert' under his name on the article. I looked him up...and he's just a journo who doesn't seem to have played or coached the game at any level (ok maybe he played until under 12's).

Obviously has no idea about what an NRL team actually needs.

Defence wins premierships unless your conceding less then 18 points a game on average forget about winning the comp.

The Cowboys in 2015 are the one outlier since 2005 when the Tigers fluked a premiership and a year later the game changed forever and Melbourne started dominated the comp with wrestling.

Most premiership winners average around 12-15 pts in defence and most premiership winners since 2005 have been in Top 2 generally.

Parramatta had the best defence in the comp in 2001 & 2005 was the last 2 times we had the best D in the comp.

Outside of 2020 under BA when we averaged 14.40 we haven't come close to that.

Until BA understands it we never will.

We have the attack now just get the D in order - Moses, Drown are better players then in 2020 when our attack was average. Moses had an average year and is a better player now and Drown is a 100 game first grader come round 1.

Perfect. I dont wanna roll in every blue moon (!) And state the obvious, however, defence is an attitude issue. The attitude of the team is a coaching issue. The coach has had a decade to install a winning attitude and yet we remain exhaustingly inconsistent. The f**kin end. Get a new coach or this mediocrity (pou ism) will continue for another 30 years.

I am curious what the 1 game Junior thinks we weren't in to the end.

As I can count 4 post the Dolphins game where we lost by 20 points or more and had 40 put on us 3 of those times.
