Eels in the media

I think for some reason they all thought they could just do the minimum (13 wins) and make the finals...? So in their minds they finished one game short... but in reality there were a LOT of games (close or otherwise) where we turned up our toes instead of having a good go. Would have been very undeserved if we did somehow happen to scrape into the finals.

Yeah/nah. We were gash all season. One would think that after three straight losses the alarm bells would start ringing. Injuries and suspensions are excuses that are thrown around by clubs that are under the pump. They were never up to it and the entire footy organisation from BA down are to blame. I expect more of the same next year unless significant coaching and team culture changes are made.

Sadly yes, one would think they would have realised more effort was required earlier before the season derailed. But I doubt we had the smarts to realise - or if we did/do it was clouded by over-inflated self-belief (from having made a run to the GF last season). I too think next year will just bring more of the same, without significant coaching change.

I think we should improve next season.

Our hookers Lussick and Hands get an off season to prepare.

Simmonson get an off season to train at centre he was injured last pre season.

Hopgood to keep improving.

Lane injury free

Less suspensions.

Kennel forum has already posted the article

Current players may not be prepared to speak candidly, but former Bulldog Andrew Davey has opened up on his troubled time at Canterbury and issues with coach Cameron Ciraldo.

It takes a lot to upset Parramatta Eels forward Andrew Davey.

But when he hears about the current turmoil at his old club the Bulldogs, and the treatment of a rising Canterbury star who was forced to take personal leave for mental-health care, he’s prepared to talk.

Davey lasted just eight rounds at Belmore before asking for a release to join Parramatta.

He’s certainly not soft, nor a whinger.

“The way the Bulldogs went about things, I didn’t like it,” Davey said.

“It wasn’t a culture that I fitted in with and it wasn’t the style of coaching that I resonated with.”

Davey has battled hard his entire career since making his debut at 28.

He’s been an honest, reliable, no-frills forward with a great work ethic at Manly, the Bulldogs and the Eels.

He’s one of those players who avoids the limelight and any controversy, even at Manly last year when the playing group was fractured over the Pride jersey fiasco.

He says the situation at Belmore this year was worse. Other players like Tevita Pangai Jr, Franklin Pele, Braidon Burns, Fa’amanu Brown have had their issues, too.

“Players had concerns (at Canterbury), but they weren’t at panic stations,” he said. “I had a couple of gripes, but I won’t go into specifics. We weren’t all pulling the same way.

“It just wasn’t my cup of tea, and a lot different to what I’ve experienced at Manly and Parramatta.

Davey was released from the final two years of his Canterbury contract in April.

He wasn’t there to witness the incident where the young player was forced to wrestle all his teammates as punishment for arriving late to training.

His problem seemed more around the coaching style of Cameron Ciraldo, rather than player workload.

“It wasn’t great with Cameron,” Davey said.

“In the end we didn’t talk when I was leaving. It was very cold. I didn’t get the ideology of the coaches. It wasn’t a process that I’d been accustomed to.

“I guess in every business there are people that don’t always get along.

“You’ve just got to go somewhere else where you’re happy. And that’s what I chose.”

This whole Bulldogs drama I think the truth is in the middle.

On one hand you have the herald which are owned by 9 and Weildler peddling the Gus side of things calling out its BS and a lot of dramas don't exist. How another media company is pushing an on going campaign against the club.

Then you have Buzz rothfield who is basically Nick Tabakoff like drip feeding stories about Dogs on a daily basis. Where everyone knows he hates Gus and the agenda is there for all to see.

I agree not sure why Davey would come out I can only assume Buzz is ringing every single person who has been associated with the Dogs in past 12/18 months to get dirt on them and Davey was too naive or dumb to fall for it.

Becuase the article said that he felt he needed to after a kid walked out based on mental health grounds. Davey didn’t really say much other than to say that the coaching style at the dogs was out there and polarising.
The most interesting part is the fact he said it was worse at Canterbury then Manly last year when Rainbow gate hit the fan.

From memory manly lost there last 7 games and things were pretty toxic at back end of last year.

So if he felt it was worse at Belmore at the start the year then it explains a lot.

I'd be curious to know if the coaching style at the Dogs is the same as what the Panthers has been for the last five years.

I'm glad he did. I hate everything about the Dogs and would love to see every other player associated with them drag them through the mud. I never want to see a strong and successful Canterbury Bulldogs ever again. I want them to totally fail. I want them gone or relocated and not to exist in Sydney as an NRL team. They for mind we a cheating club even back in the 80's with wearing hockey pads and sh*t like that to wound and injure because they couldn't beat us fairly.

Then the salary cap nonsense too. How many years really would they have been rorting it until they got busted? Even when they got busted, they still, like the Storm had the majority of the roster that they had assembled under the rort together and won it anyway. Many of the players that they had would and should never been in their colours in the first place had they not been cheating.

So is anyone surprised to see that Gus is trying to get the Dogs of war mentality, the take no prisoners attitude and mental animalism back into the place? Make the players ruthless and willing to do anything (including pushing the boundaries and cheating eventually) just like the Storm philosophy back in the day.

So when someone like Davey pisses on them, I love seeing them take a yellow shower. The more the merrier, everyone should join in. Besides they are one of our great rivals and it will only add to the hatred and spice. Kick them while they are down I say. Ruin them. They should be the Adelaide Bulldogs anyway. They don't have a place in this city no more. Get the F**k out of here I say. Just p*ss off!
