Paywalled. Does the article have quotes or is it a Buzz / Hooper claim ?

NRL 2024: Parramatta Eels targeted Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy with $10m contract to replace Brad Arthur
Before securing Jason Ryles as their new head coach, Parramatta offered Storm coach Craig Bellamy an NRL record $10 million contract to replace Brad Arthur and save the strife-torn Eels.

Just a small tin pot club with no money.

It's not that we don't have money, it's that we haven't been willing to spend enough of it.
Also other clubs have more money.

I can't read the article so not sure over how many years this $10m was over, but from the outside looking in it seems a crazy decision to turn down that amount of money. He either really wants to retire soon, does not want to leave Melbourne or is afraid of f**king up his legacy with another team away from the Storm system.

I dont blame the club for giving it a crack despite it being probably a 10 million to 1 shot anyway.

Bellamy has never lived or worked in Sydney as far as i believe despite being from NSW.

Grew up in Portland in the country moved to Canberra as a player then coached there before moving to the Broncos in Brisbane under Bennett for 6-7 years then signed with Melbourne.

I think he prefers flying under the radar down there where he can just coach without much publicity and bring in all the WWE crew to train up the players.

He has a job for life and does he really need the money i assume he has set up the family for life. He is probably been on close to 2 million a year anyway for the past 5 or 6 years.

Plus he has knocked back the Broncos about 6 times already hasn't he.

Yes, he apparently has knocked the Broncos back a few times.
From the source I posted he hasbeen on $1.5m a year. I would guess he would have been on that amount for quite a while. Still, that a million dollars per year he's turning down. Hard to do that even if you already have plenty of money (just ask any of these professional sportsmen who hold out for that extra $2m a year when they are already being paid $28m a year (yes, I'm looking at you Brandon Aiyuk).

Good on him if he just wants to stay comfortable in Melbourne and just use the unlimited resources available to him there. He will never be the greatest coach ever in my mind if he does that, as you had Gibson and Bennett who showed that they could have success with more than one club. Then again, I don't think he gives a shit what I think.

Or even know who I am.

Do I even exist?

Bennett has him covered no matter what based on Rep performances.

Bellamy failed at Origin and Bennett took a QLD side with a backline of Corey Allan, Phillip Sami, Brenko & Edrick Lee to a series win ffs.

Throw in his achievements at International Level.

Another thing which will surprise a few is Bellamy & Melbourne have never won B2B premierships. Not that its a bad thing to be winning comps so regularly. But that's just another asterisk if your comparing his greatness to Bennett & Gibson.

Or how much he’s willing to protect his legacy, how many times has he turned down the Donkeys as well???

He will never be considered in Bennett’s or Big Jacks class because he never left the safety of the easy ride at a Melbun.

to be fair 98% of those merkins he coached he virtually developed himself, despite Waldron's f**kery...

imagine if he had uncle Nick by his side?
