Eels plan to re-ignite Hayne

I think Hayne is more useful being put into gaps or broken play rather than the one creating these plays for others.
Also the 5/8 needs a good kicking game too and I haven't seen Hayne putting boot to ball too often.
Despite the number 6, I don't think Hayne will be doing much of either of that?

We still have Mateo close in at 13, and he and Finch will be putting Hayne through gaps in the middle half of the field, where hopefully he can then connect up with the three-quarters in support play. Whereas before Hayne was a three-quarter and the play ended after he made the break out wide.

For kicking we'll still have Burt in 1, chiming in on the 4th-5th-6th to take the pressure off Finch. That type of tactic works well for other teams, you just need a team in motion (instead of standing stock still) and a dummy half looking at all sides of the play so that we don't telegraph that the kick is on.

I dont know about Jarrryd not having a kicking game, in the school hols I was watching some of the (better) games we have played in the last couple of years and I noticed that everytime Jarryd has kicked the ball (although it hasnt been that much I admit) he hasnt got a bad boot on him. I think I am willing to give him a go see where he can take us, its not like its a permanent position.

When Burt is in form he must be somewhere in the team. He is way too experienced to be left out completely. You have to give kudos to him if he gets the nod at fullback.

He is also the best goalkicker in our club.

Yeah I think K Keating could make a good half back. Definately has a good kicking and running game. It's just the passing game I'm worried about.

it sounds promising. Finch and mateo throwing nice passes to hayne close to the ruck will be dynamic. Exactly like inglis.

Burt needs to bulk up more, if he had hayne's body he would be fine.

there's a bit of theory going around Jake is that he could be used at hooker with his brother...

not sure whether I like the idea but it is coming from DA so I guess we have to keep an open mind to how it goes.

And what's Kingston's role likely to be then?

what is the obsession with trying to turn class outside backs into 5'8ths.

inglis, gasnier etc etc.

leave him at fullback

mateo has lost 6kgs over the break. DA said if he gets down to 100kgs, the 5/8 position is his.

he looks like a 5/8 now.

good luck to hayne, but mateo is looking the goods.

I think 13 is Mateo's better position , but I definately wouldnt mind if they gave him the oportunity to play 5/8 , but he would have to be great to change my mind.:)

The greatest thing to hear from all these posts is the way the coach is thinking.

The best cause for optimism in this club since the signing of the Canterbury 4 I reckon.

The only thing stopping Feleti from dominating the comp like a Thurstonis fitness. That last post is one of the best pieces of news I have heard.

I think blokes who didn't step up last year could be real smokies this season.

I'm still very concerned about our pack more so if Feleti is switched to 6.

Only takes one injury, and Kingston is somewhere in the 6,7,9,14 mix.

interestingly enough he played halfback against Wenty in their semi last year at Ringrose and didn't do a bad job at all, set up a couple of tries infact.

From what I have seen from previous seasons, I think Feleti is the best in the squad available to us at 13,even depending on where they put anyone else.
