Eels release Kieran Foran

I do think he will be a good number 6. I think he has more ability than Foran and is the most talented player I have ever seen. He will be effective because he has a better pass from left to right than Foran who is predominately a left side half made to play on the right. In addition Hayne has a massive long kicking game that both Norman and Foran can only dream of. Hayne also has a squeaky clean image and will bring more bums on seats than any other player in the game.

I have no confidence in Foran being a long term player at Parra. I think he is highly overrated and I reckon there are several players that I would be better value than Foran at half the price, assuming Hayne doesn't return.

Foran is an animal and easily in the top echelon of halves when fit. Anyone I've spoken to who has dealings with him think he is a great bloke who is all about the team as do all of his team mates. There was no way he should've played against Newcastle but manned up and took the field.

The bloke could've back flipped on his deal last year to Parramatta but chose to say loyal and stay with the deal something that shows what a person is really made unlike someone like Hayne who f**ked off on a whim leaving the club high and dry.

Careful Ratchy, Hayne's a protected species around here :sarcasm:

Someone might accuse you of having an agenda or fixation if you mention his name!

Tbf, Foran didn't have anywhere near the amount of opportunities to f**k off as Hayne did during his years with us. Or the same incentives - who else offered him as much as us? All that said, you still have a point.

I find it unbelievable people would welcome back Hayne with open arms like a messiah when he walked out on the club at the time he did. Lets not forget the bloke waited till he won the his second Dally M to get maximum opportunities and how his management team would be able to sell him as an athlete to the Americans as the best in the game in the hardest league in the world.

That's without mentioning what could happen to an unfortunate Fijian sevens player if Hayne is chosen in their olympic squad because it was obvious he was a long shot to make the 49'ers squad and bolted before being cut.

His 2nd Dally M had nothing to do with selling himself to the NFL. You can have whatever opinion you want about him but to suggest he only made an NFL roster because he won a Dally M in Australia is pretty god damn funny.

Hayne also stayed loyal to Parra during some bleak years even when the club sacked some of his best mates (Inu etc). He pursued a dream, so what? I'll welcome him back not like he is "some messiah" but certainly as a loyal Eel and a heck of a footballer.

I was one of the stronger critics of the circumstances of Hayne leaving (and still am). But....you move on. If he's available at a sensible price, I say take him. If not, no big deal.

PARRAMATTA superstar Kieran Foran will meet with club officials as early as Monday to determine how best he moves forward with ongoing treatment for a range of off-field issues.

Still immobilised after undergoing shoulder surgery, Foran could choose to stay in Sydney for treatment with the Eels medical team, return to a Queensland rehabilitation centre or even continue his recovery overseas — as happened with close friend, Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce.

Only weeks after being admitted to a Brisbane clinic for personal issues, which followed a relationship breakdown, the Parramatta captain was then at the centre of allegations $75,000 had been punted from his TAB account.

In recent days, there has been further revelations about the New Zealand Test star’s friendship with former brothel owner Eddie Hayson, who is denying any involvement in the current NRL match fixing scandal.

There is no suggestion Foran or Hayson have done anything wrong in respect to these claims.

There are, however, concerns about the welfare of a player who is one of the most respected, and liked, footballers in the game.

Speaking with The Daily Telegraph, an Eels spokesman said the club would meet with both Foran and his management early this week to determine his ongoing treatment.

“This club’s number one priority is the welfare of Kieran,’’ the official said.

“And we will provide all the support and resources necessary to ensure he returns to full health.

“We will work with all the key stakeholders to map out the best plan possible moving forward.”

Elsewhere, Manly official Peter Peters threw his support behind Foran and other members of the 2015 Manly Sea Eagles during on interview on Sky Sports Radio.

HURT: Hastings struggled with rumours

ORIGIN II: Dugan could be back

“I’m still in a state of shock as to where Kieran Foran is at in his life at the moment. I love that boy,” Peters said.

“I’ve sat in the TAB with him and bet on racehorses but I didn’t know he punted to the extent allegedly being said.

“I hate to see some of the players whose names are being dragged through the mud now,” Peters said of the alleged match fixing scandal.

“I have laughed with some of those blokes, I have cried with some of them after games. I know what they are like.

“Some of those players who have been mentioned … they would knock you out if you even suggested they throw a game. Such is their will to win.

“To get five or six of them — it’s just ridiculous. I cannot see it going anywhere.

“I don’t know how we’re looking at something like this when a bet of that magnitude has to be registered. You cannot pull a million dollars out of the air with a bookmaker or betting agency.”

Asked if hand on heart, he could say no Manly players had bet against the club, Peters replied: “I can’t do that because I don’t know.

“But these guys, you would not get them for $50,000. Not when they’re on contracts of $600,000.

“There are circumstances in people’s lives where they do stupid things. I don’t know whether anyone has been put in that position but I do know, collectively, there is no way you would get them.

“No way, in the world.”

Peters also questioned if rugby league had become the “ham in the sandwich” of an underworld dispute.

people get corrupted regularly for less than 50k. Especially if they are vulnerable to blackmail, or have lost money heavily gambling.

And 50k tax free in the hand is a big chunk of cash even if you are on 5 or 600k. After your manager gets his7-10 per cent and the taxman 50 percent of the balance its something like a quarter of your net annual income.

I reckon French will end up about as good as Albert Kelly. Hayne would displace him in an instant. However, I see Hayne's future in the centres. I think he could be the best centre in the game. He's only played 180-odd games and has a lot of rugby league left in him. Do you have your highest paid player at centre? Well, if you have a Corey Norman at five-eight, a Clint Gutherson at fullback and a half-way decent hooker and half - you can. Piss Foran off. We go okay without him.

I reckon French will be twice the player Kelly was.
