It's as if after handing down the punishments the NRL have thought that's the end of that, they will just accept and move on.
Now we have decided to fight it all and NRL have basically shat itself.
Media don't seem to be bashing the club as much as well (must be getting less tip offs)

Most of it was 2nd tier cap fines for being over it by around $300k, the cap for NRL was over by about $100k and there was some over in the youth cup cap.
I'd say the $3mil they say we have been over combined in the last 5-6 years is including 2nd tier and youth cup caps as well not just NRL.

Wouldn't be surprised. They don't seem to be familiar with the dangers of over-egging. Let's hope that before too long they know them by heart.

And to be fair, the NRL are entitled to do this. An analogy would be that you claim to your mates that "I owe the ATO no tax this year" after you send in your tax return. After they audit you however, the ATO tell you that you can't put in a new pool and claim it as a business expense just because your staff came over for a Xmas party.

I think the NRL were very cheeky however by simply saying that were were fielding a team that was $570k over the cap , when the finer detail was that we were actually 2016 compliant but they have deemed past TPAs illegal, so they have included them in our 2016 cap.

Which then brings us to the "$3M over the cap in the past 4 years" claim. We're still waiting for the break down of that.

Using your ATO analogy further. What the NRL has done is essentially saying that because your pool was a dodgy claim of a business expense, that means that we now classify all your business expenses as dodgy, even though some of those claims are legitimate business expenses.

Can someone explain to me the circumstances behind the NRL's request (to the court) for the 60 page doc to be confidential ? Why now are they so worried about leaks when they have kept their hands in their pockets and watched News Ltd go to town on us over the past few months ?

I'd be willing to guess that #1 witness has been given a deal ... spill all and you are safe ... of course spilling all would have to be very incriminating for himself - and i also wonder if advice from his best buddy might not look so good if it went public

I think this is exactly what they expected. That's why the 'investigation' was concluded at the time it was. And why they tried to link it with the Go5. No resignations, no compliance, no points equals season over. It was timed to encourage us to turn on ourselves, and demand the 5 stand down and we cop our punishment.

An ambulance officer on the news just said that minutes can be the difference between life and death. How I wish he was an advisor to our board. :)

I can't believe that the NRL would've thought that. It was obvious that the Parra board weren't going to take this lying down.

I think they had a strategy, that I outlined the other day, but this was contingent on them at least having the evidence to back up and substantiate their penalties. It appears that this evidence could be flimsy at best.

But in the end, the ATO will say, "Despite this, we still cannot justify the conclusion that you owe any tax. So, instead of getting the rebate you initially thought you were going to get, we're calling it even and letting you go."

on footy show, the journalists think joely said and that they didnt seek legal advice when they went public.

i think since parra has gone to court, they have dropped the go5 criteria as well extending the time we have to reply

i reckon gturd probably gave his team a deadline, but they didnt have it all ready and hence the scratchy details.

i reckon since they dont want the report publicised and if we keep on pushing legal challenges, they will settle out of court

most likely a reduction in points and $$ and only some of th go5 needs to step down

So Shubert will argue tomorrow that the NRL counted tpa's Twice instead of Once. This would be a major mistake by the NRL. The NRL has said Hoppa won't come out of cap because its compensation not wages. So we have a few things in our favour.

Maybe we should let it be known that we are offering a $10,000,000 bounty for information that leads to the conviction of salary cap cheats, considering how seriously the NRL takes it.

It beggars belief that they didn't have legal advice, but it sure looks that way.

The media report said that schubert believe something has been counted twice ... just a media report .... who knows how much

I think a few people have already said it ... we should be careful not to get too far ahead of ourselves .... Im sure there is mud still stuck on us ... lets just hope its nowhere near as much as we have been accused of

Oh, they have legal advice. I know the lady who was (and probably still is) their counsel. She is sharp, and very decent. Whether their strategy is dictated by the legal advice they been given is another story.

They are trying to get as much leverage from the timing of these revelations as they can (i.e. mid-season, threats to directors etc with bugger all notice). High stakes poker, with a couple of extra cards in their back pocket.

We wouldn't have to come anywhere near that sort of money to get people to rat others out. You'd be surprised what people would do for so little money.
