The NRL in their press conference did reference the scale of our breach. And it was huge. Hence our big penalty

Of course they mentioned it . They could hardly not. But they didn't punish us by taking x amount of points, they punished us by taking any points earned while we were non compliant. Then refused to let us earn points while we were still be over. How much we were over was clearly irrelevant. They didn't say, "get close enough and you're good to go."

At the end of the day the NRL had an agenda with how they have handled it ... they let it drag along until we had accrued a number of points that they could take to make it a very hard ask to recover from ... they believe our management is incompetant and have been doing all they can to get rid of them

Their agenda ended up
a) get rid of board members and management staff
b) make us lose at least one quality player ... not including watmough who it was obvious was gone regardless

even if we had only needed to drop 400k, they would have likely drawn a line and not included watmough at all to force us to lose another player

They wouldnt listen to anything that ian questioned - they just wanted us to drop that quality player

if we successfully argue the breach wasn't as much as the NRL said what will they give us to compensate for losing Peats because the NRL f**ked up?

Agenda? You make it sound like the NRL was after us just for the hell of it.

The introduction of the concept that a team that is not cap compliant can't earn points will probably come back to haunt Greenberg and co. Sadly it will be too late for us.

Our situation does not set a precedent for all cases where a club is over the cap. It may set a precedent for cases that are very similar to ours (e.g. if confirmed......a concerted and systematic attempt to get around the cap illegally, with the initial investigation concluded at a time after the club had assembled its roster for the forthcoming or current year).

You are assuming that if, say, the breach notice was handed down in Week 3, that we'd only have been penalised 4 points. They would have decided on a minimum appropriate penalty, and may well have hit us something like 12 points anyway. It's not just punishment for being over the cap this year. It is partly punishment for apparently running a system designed to cheat the cap.

Saw Tabakoff has written yet another article today about issues in 2014, I remember that at the AGM an ex CEO was called out for being seen in deep conversation with said so called journo. At the races no less. His confidant was still a member of the board at that time

The story from the podium was when can we expect a story that has been a result of the meeting, ummm coincidence much ???

Losing face...that's the real stumbling block, here. There was a bit of a rush job by the NRL to try and get us to shit our pants and become compliant with no resistance by the Souths game. To an extent, it worked. But if resistance comes now then the one obstacle we face more than any other is the NRL losing face. Now that we've been forced to shed Peats the NRL can't let us get ourselves back into a respectable position regarding our breaches. Which is why court has always been a real option if we truly believe this whole thing has been exaggerated. We need to be figuring out a way to get this into court because the NRL are not going to just roll over and drop our penalty from 12 to 4 after accepting our interpretation of the findings. I believe our response will get us no reprieve. If we want one, we need a strategy to get this in front of a court.

Jake, it may not have been the NRL who was after us, but it was definitely the internal rats who leaked everything to the media.

Even you have to understand that.

Internal rats?? Whom? Seward, whom they originally hired?

If we had decent management to begin with. We would Not Be talking about this if they hadn't been such poor managers. If they hadn't been doing wrong from the start we'd be in the top 4 and we would not be talking about the media agendas. The plumber and his cohorts is who we should be going off at.
