Yeah my bad - I knew after I typed it that it was probably wrong.

Should have said you can't go on light duties, be paid and then ask for a back-dated retirement.
;-)
You still might be, depends on insurance policy ;-) and in fact most sports insurance stipulates participation in the sport i.e. games as a defining factor, because training can be classified as exercise which is incidental to everyday living. Then again insurance companies aren't always known to keep to even their own policies, especially if it means avoiding a payout

The vast majority of us do not work for an employer subject to a salary cap that the employer has voluntarily agreed to abide by.

No but we do work for companies that pay payroll tax, which works on the total amount of wages paid - just like the salary cap.

So, the backdating/reimbursement of wages would reduce that payroll burden in a similar fashion to how our salary cap total would be reduced.

Yes you can, you just then reimburse company or they take it off payout

Exactly. Such reimbursements do happen and this is the avenue we should be looking to pursuing.

Ehhh long straw but I suppose in a fashion salary cap is like payroll tax

.

Ummmmm. And if an insurance payout and/or termination payout to a player has payroll tax implications, the payroll tax will be paid. IIRC the taxable component of the termination payment is liable for payroll tax.....so, if you tried to draw a parallel from payroll tax treatment we'd be up for at least the full year's salary on the cap.

But, regardless....there is no reason why a non-legislative body has to apply the same rules/principles as a legislative body. For example, accomodation allowances are treated differently for payroll tax purposes than they are for salary cap purposes.....does that mean the cap is illegal?

But for now, it is difficult to remember a less intense, less fractious lead-up to State of Origin. Indeed, so quiet has it been the Queenslanders are turning on each other. Tickets to Gorden Tallis v Wayne Bennett are selling faster than those for Origin II.

The Eels saga hasn’t helped. It takes a story of unusual proportions to overshadow Origin. But such is the magnitude of the Parramatta saga it could soon overshadow the Federal election. Although in the Eels’ board room there are no safe seats.

Yes we are the best clickbait material on the planet

Foxsports are still managing at least one Jarryd Hayne article per day and some of them still NFL related.

So case was about whether NRL should have named them in 'preliminary' findings.
They've only recently allowed (was SKD this year or last?) players accused of criminal charges to continue playing until final hearing. Good to see they stay consistent

I think you will find that SKD was stood down by the club for his own issues, similar to the way Parra gave Foran leave, rather than having anything to do with the matter going to court. After all SKD still played before the court case was finalised.

Most sensible decision they've taken for a while.

Article mentions that 4 of the 5 have engaged their own lawyers, and their individual penalties isn't really a matter for the club to defend (moving forward), or to pay for from members' funds.

Interesting that Sharp and Bevan Paul both didn't front for the latest Board meeting, so the decision on our interim footy CEO is still in limbo.

We probably would have lost those 2 points as well, if the bye had occurred in the first 9 rounds before we shed Morgan, Peats and Watmough.
